  • This shit has to stop. Israël under Likoud has turned into a rogue state, fighting a ruthless war on Palistian people, justifying the war for its own corrupt leaders. US and European governments must realize that Israel is not their ally anymore. It has become a liability and will not do anything for them

  • Of course I would have! I have never been without a job since I started 25 years ago and this is frightening with kids studying and a mortgage. Jumping from one job to another is not really a thing in my field/country. People prefer staying where they are rather than taking a chance

  • Landed my current job with a 30 minute zoom interview that I took from my previous office. This came at the end of an 18 month process during which I carefully selected potential positions. I applied to 20ish positions, got about 5-6 interviews and 2 offers. The first one fell through because they couldn't match my previous compensation package. Definitely worth it

  • France is concerned of all comments about the war in Gaza. France is the European country with the largest Jewish and Muslim communities. It is trying to navigate this mess in order to keep civil peace in a very very tense context.

France is backing Israel because it is in dept with Jewish people over its collaboration during WW2 and the help it provided to the Nazis in the hunt of Jewish people.

France was attacked and is still threatened by Islamist terrorists (Charlie, Nice, Bataclan,...). Hamas is more or less aligned on IS when it comes to Western countries, that is why it is considered a terrorist organization.

But France is also in dept with Arabs and Muslims. It colonized North Africa for 130 years, led a bloody war in Algeria with lots of war crimes against civilians. It hosts millions of citizen of Arabic and Muslim ancestry and the government cannot pretend their opinionidoesn't matter (lots of people who are neither Arabs nor Muslim also want Israel to stop bombing Gaza). It has been funding schools and hospitals in Gaza, is dropping food and medicine by air for Gaza's population. It does not provide any military assistance toI Israel which is not a member of NATO.

So yes, France needs to regulate public speech to avoid civil unrest and violence at home, while working toward a lasting peace between Palestine and Israel.

  • The whole system encourages such behavior: you need to publish to get a position, you need to publish to get funded, you need to publish to get exposure, your university and your department need you to publish to climb the rankings... In the end, there just isn't enough material to justify that many publications or to allow a proper peer-review of all papers

  • Never heard of this media. If confirmed, the plot will be very similar to the forced deportation and genocide of Armenians by Turkey in 1915-16. I hope they won't do it. If they do, they will surely lose any type of support from Western countries.

  • Still a completely misleading claim. Western democracies are under attack from outside and from within. Russia is in Europe invading a democracy aligned on European democracies. EU countries don't need the US to see where their interest lies.
