  • I think the issue with devices like this is that apps simply aren't optimized for use like this.

I have a Surface. Barely used it as a tablet really, there aren't a ton of uses and Windows in tablet mode is just awful.

With the keyboard it turns into a neat and portable mini laptop, which I love.

The Starlite seems neat, but with the current specs it feels like not quite a tablet yet not quite a laptop either.

  • Coming from Belgium, it's an entirely different experience here.

We've theorised that in the US, they're just businesses that buy an installation with recipes included and have very little knowledge of how brewing actually works.

  • From my experience, I've seen very few reasonable comments from hexbear members.

Sure, other instances have bad actors, but it seems especially bad on hexbear.

I don't even think it's a matter of ideology or worldview. It's the absurd amount of conflict, trolling and generally "a bad time" they're bringing to the fediverse.

If the instance can handle their toxic user base, I don't see a problem in federation. But until then I think defederation is the best move.

This is my personal experience with hexbear though. Everybody is free to express their ideology, but please let us do it in a mature and adult way.

  • When a risk is so small, there's no reason to be prepared. That's fear acting.

If you truly believe situations needing a gun are as common as needing a first aid kid or being in a car crash, then I would quickly move somewhere else.

Besides that, being prepared is not always the solution.

When hiking, you can stuff your backpack for every little risk you might take, but your hike won't last long, as you'll quickly realise you won't get far with the weight you've carried. You've even increased the risk of injury.

This is what gun carriers are to me. By unnecessarily preparing, they actually increase the risk of falling victim to what they prepared for.

You might not carry out of fear, but you'll learn to fear soon, because you're contributing yourself to the problem.
