  • We have all universally adopted Rich Communication Services, which is an open standard.

Well, except for Apple. They haven't adopted it.

  • My T480 has a very worn internal battery, but still does 8-10 hours. Thanks to the powerbridge I can hotswap a second battery to run for another 7 hours.

  • Set up btrfs and timeshift. You never know when you need that big undo button.

  • When you spend most of the day on the porcelain throne you kind of just accept that reality.

  • I'm writing this on my phone from the toilet.

Before that I was using my 2011 thinkpad x220. Those 2012 MBPs have twice the cores and a usable screen.

  • I ran Manjaro for a couple of years as my daily driver before moving on to EndeavourOS. At this point I've probably spent an equal amount of time on both distros.

Their holding back of arch packages might sound like a good idea, but in reality not so much. Most of the time the same oopsies slip through with a bit of delay. Other times being out of sync with AUR causes additional issues. Arch stable is already stable, so holding back is just extra work with no gain in my book. Any additional testing effort would be better spent on Arch testing instead of doing the same work with delay.

  • I rotate between a few computers. Everything is synced between them with syncthing and they all have automatic btrfs snapshots. So I have several physical points to roll back from.

For a worst case scenario everything is also synced offsite weekly to a pCloud share. I have a little script that mounts it with pcloudfs, encfs and then rsyncs any updates.

  • Get some mason jars and do oldschool canning. Food will stay preserved well as there's no bacteria at the temperature you put it in there, and no air will get in.

Toss in some macaroni and pasta sauce, goulash, tomato soup, premade cup-o-noodles with your favourite veg and protein. Your imagination is the limit.

  • Look for PCL6 support.

You won't even need a driver, because it already speaks a standard protocol.

  • Jolla is the successor to Nokia's Maemo/Meego OS which was proper Linux. Jolla does have seamless Android emulation. They don't do their own phones anymore, though.

  • My Linux journey started on fvwm2, but after that I ran enlightenment for a good few years. Probably from 1999 to 2005, when I switched to blackbox/fluxbox.

Today I expect a DE to have great integration for managing wifi/bluetooth. It wasn't needed 20 years ago, because computers didn't have these fancy things. I haven't really tried enlightenment recently, but it feels like that's where it's lacking today.

  • I used vysor a while back. Played some star trek mobile from my computer and used it for screensharing my phone during app test sessions.

  • How does Netflix and banking apps play with LineageOS?

My phone will get its last security update this month, so I'm thinking to jump ship.

  • NavMii has served me well in offline situations.
