probably refers to the focus on stock market values and private wealth as opposed to society's interests/wealth (public institutions, local swimming pools and amenities even, health etc). Middle class implies there must be impoverished workers and an upper-class. Finally, different countries will value national wealth differently according to their needs and resources - not everything has to be valued by the market to be fairly priced. Probably.

That goes without saying, I mean in places like the US/UK/Japan etc, it's useful. Many artists almost depended on it.

There are 'clout chasers' everywhere in all generations. States, companies and officials all try to edit their Wikipedia pages. I saw an example on my lemmy feed just yesterday.

I'm surprised people aren't aware of the real estate mob. It's the oligarchy who are pushing for return to offices. They have valuable investments in both big companies and the real estate, and they don't want to see the values of their assets going down.
