  • May be a bit out there, but on Android, Shattered Pixel Dungeon is a rogue lite game that is free and extremely fun to play. No ads, not very demanding on your phone, still gets updates, and easy to pick up and play when you're out traveling.

Its a very hard game, where knowledge is very important, as well as experimentation.

  • Yes winds do blow pollution, especially from a lot of coastal cities. Los Angeles is an exception because of the mountains nearish the coast that essentially disrupt those winds. So most of the year, the smog just accumulates over LA, contributing to its very low quality air. This is despite the fact that LA (and other Western US States) use a cleaner burning blend of gasoline (more expensive as well), has somewhat strict fuel efficiency fuel requirements, and smog checks for vehicles. Other coastal states don't have the same restrictions yet still have better air quality.

  • Bit of a vague post, but I suggest Trying any distro honestly. You can load it on a USB and use it directly off the USB, no commitments. I bit more of a commitment, dual boot a Linux OS. Very easy and allows access to Linux and windows.

I use Ubuntu and enjoy It a lot.mint is another good one I used to use.

I would also suggest figuring out what apps you need to see if they work on Linux, or if there are workable alternatives.

  • China trying to keep americans on a Chinese app vs an app they can't control. Honestly, even here in Lemmy the conversation surrounding the TikTok ban looks like when bots and bad actors were appearing to support trump on Reddit in 2016.

China is still an adversary of the US with lots of human rights abuses and no qualms taking any advantage it can over the US. Zuckeberg isnt really much better, but he's a harder problem to deal with

  • "officially" is an ambigious term here. Legally, 18 years old in the US. "completely" an adult? depends on a variety of factors. Most people under 25 aren't allowed to rent a car by themselves in the US, so that brings up the age in regards to that. Regardless, I think this is a tangential question.

I think what you mean to ask, is at what age does a person make decisions for themselves completely, as we're talking about this 19 year old being pressured into going into the sub. Well that depends on the situation of the person in question which is basically what I said in my previous post. Does this person live on their own? Provide income for themselves? How is their relationship with their parents? How confident is the person in themselves?

At 19 years old, many people are still reliant on their parents for many things, and also living with them. Arguments are way more impactful in this situation because you can't just go home and leave, or you can't ignore certain things because they may be ongoing or consistent problems. There's probably already arguments happening in this relationship about how each person wants to handle different things. This may be a situation where the 19 year old thought, "I don't want to cause a big argument over this" so they give in.

e: and I forgot where I was, i like that you are trying to say this 19 year old millionaire spawn has a low paying job, with no place.

You should at least reread things before commenting to not waste your time my previous post with added bold, and brackets:

At 19, even though you’re legally an adult, you’re probably still very reliant on your parents, [implied you] don’t have a very high paying job, and likely don’t have your own place.

We don't know if this 19 year old has a high paying job. I doubt it since many people don't have a degree at this age.

  • This is a ridiculous statement. If a 40 year old can't tell their parents no to a trip, that's a problem with the 40 year old. At 19, even though you're legally an adult, you're probably still very reliant on your parents, don't have a very high paying job, and likely don't have your own place.

  • I feel like the radar thing doesn't make sense. The plane is invisible to the naked eye, which radar doesn't rely on. If you got a box to somehow fly, and made the material invisible, radar would still pick it up flying through the air due to how radar works. That being said, I may be wrong about how the invisible jet works, and it could also have some materials that make it non readable to radar.

I'm honestly coming up with blanks for a plane that is invisible, but the occupants aren't. I feel in anything related to air to air, that sort of invisibility is pretty useless because either you're plane is invisible to all radar, which makes it being visible to the naked eye rather unimportant, or you're not invisible to radar in which case it doesn't matter that the ship is invisible since pilots don't rely on their naked eye for plane detection. Against people without radar (random ground troops, random people) I suppose its sort of helpful.
