  • It's not that simple for everyone. Some of the studios that wound down in the last year did so because they couldn't find funding from publishers, due to the general lack of investment. It's not easy to run a games company with no outside investment whatsoever.

  • It's true it does cost to keep things running. But like you say there are ways around this to push server costs onto players, or simply allow offline play with online features disabled.

    I think if there were legislation in place then design decisions would adapt. If it were costly to just shut a game down abruptly, there would be player hosted options in place from the start and ideally less spurious "always online" requirements woven into the fabric of every game.

  • When someone comissions a painting, they choose the subject and that's about it. Sure if they didn't like it they might not pay, but that's probably already more hands off than any publisher in the games industry.

  • Nice range of colours!

    I'm so annoyed at the timing of this, I'm in a place far enough north to get decent views of it in winter (but it is always cloudy). Right now we don't get full night so at 1am, the peak of darkness, it wasn't super visible.
