Was Jesus a man of color? Why this question matters more than ever

Trump's followers don't worry about remembering things factually. They immediately either ignore or romanticize the past as it fits their preformed ideology. That's why it's called a "cult" of personality.
Ah, now I get why it's being downvoted. What a lousy spin to put on something so necessary as minimum wage increases.
The only reason I read the article was to figure out why LGBTQ+ was going broke in Canada. Given that (as near as I can tell) "Pride" has been associated with LGBTQ+ (or their historical analogs) since about the 70's, that's quite the name for an unaffiliated company.
What's amusing is that I just noticed now that you're the person who gave me the benefit of the doubt and defended me earlier. I seriously did not know that when I posted this, but after you replied here I recognized the name. Cheers friend.
Dr. Mike from Renaissance Periodization has a video you may find useful, and he's legitimately a PhD sports scientist and trainer. It's not a full program but it's a good start from a reputable source.
Mean people are everywhere, and the separation of internet communication makes it easy to be cruel. Wave them off and and celebrate the folks who treat others well.
For what it's worth thanks for giving me the benefit of the doubt. Given that this whole post is about trans folks I think sex, sexuality, and gender are all applicable topics (with gender spectrum focal when talking about trans). I do understand the difference. To defend the person who wants clarification, perhaps I could have framed it better and I'll change it to "and the gender spectrum" instead of "on the gender spectrum". It's one word and what is meant is pretty apparent to anyone who reads the article or looks at the expanded graphic - which addresses concepts of sex, sexuality, and gender and explicitly uses the term "gender spectrum" when talking about trans choices/identity.
Oxfam released an analysis saying the top 1% got 63% of all new wealth generated from 2020-2022. According to UN analysis the top 10% own 85% of all the wealth.
According to Oxfam, "an annual wealth tax of up to 5 percent on the world’s multi-millionaires and billionaires could raise $1.7 trillion a year, enough to lift 2 billion people out of poverty, fully fund the shortfalls on existing humanitarian appeals, deliver a 10-year plan to end hunger, support poorer countries being ravaged by climate impacts, and deliver universal healthcare and social protection for everyone living in low- and lower middle-income countries."
Link to the article the image is from since I don't know how to internet well enough to make the image expandable. TL:DR genetics/biology show it's complex and there are many intersex possibilities on and the gender spectrum.
To people who aren't sure if this should be illegal or what the big deal is: according to Harvard clinical psychiatrist and instructor Dr. Alok Kanojia (aka Dr. K from HealthyGamerGG), once non-consensual pornography (which deepfakes are classified as) is made public over half of people involved will have the urge to kill themselves. There's also extreme risk of feeling depressed, angry, anxiety, etc. The analogy given is it's like watching video the next day of yourself undergoing sex without consent as if you'd been drugged.
I'll admit I used to look at celeb deepfakes, but once I saw that video I stopped immediately and avoid it as much as I possibly can. I believe porn can be done correctly with participant protection and respect. Regarding deepfakes/revenge porn though that statistic about suicidal ideation puts it outside of healthy or ethical. Obviously I can't make that decision for others or purge the internet, but the fact that there's such regular and extreme harm for the (what I now know are) victims of non-consensual porn makes it personally immoral. Not because of religion or society but because I want my entertainment to be at minimum consensual and hopefully fun and exciting, not killing people or ruining their happiness.
I get that people say this is the new normal, but it's already resulted in trauma and will almost certainly continue to do so. Maybe even get worse as the deepfakes get more realistic.
To anyone who has played it - does it look a lot better than say, Witcher 3 or Elden Ring? Because in the footage and photos I'm not seeing much that explains why it's so hardware-intensive. If you told me this came out 5 years ago I'd probably believe you based off the graphics in the review I watched.
Usually one of the first steps is dehumanization - make your targets "less than human" in the eyes of the population. Nazis famously did it by comparing Jews to rats. You'll notice in a lot of recent Israeli press releases and media Palestinians are referred to as "inhuman animals" or some variation of that. By creating that disconnect between your targets and "normal, healthy" humans you reduce empathy and make harsher treatment seem acceptable.
Another step is to make your audience disgusted or angry. Studies show there's a link between those two emotions and harsher judgments (although degree/method is still very much an area of research). To invoke disgust you may use words like "filthy, wretched, diseased, mindless" etc. Using the Nazi example again, they made cartoons that showed Jews as dirty, greasy and generally disgusting. To make people angry convince them your targets are "immoral, violent, bloodthirsty" and so on. Nazis leaned heavily into blaming Jews for society's ills and calling them thieves. Both effects can be made greater if your audience is conditioned to be sensitive to anger/disgust, i.e. being raised to believe in strict definitions of purity and so on. For Nazis it was the idea that Aryans were racially superior. For Zionism it often involves teaching people they are "God's chosen" with other races not having the same rights (like rights to dwell in territory claimed by Israel) because of religion.
So if you can make your victims seem less than human and enrage or disgust your audience you convince people to do horrible things. They won't feel like they are doing it to valuable humans and often think it's a form of justice or necessary cleansing. Using the above psychological "levers" can shift perceptions so large populations view some other group as different to relatable, valid people.
- I'm sure Giuliani knows a lot about empathy for the homeless given his time as mayor of New York City. Oh wait, he was actually criticized extensively for his heartless, draconian policies. Maybe I need to look into Buddhism because karma sure feels real right now.
- His best buddy Trump is a real estate genius. The best ever at doing real estate. Maybe he can find Rudy a corner in the totally real rooms that make his Manhattan penthouse 30,000 sq. feet instead of the actual 11,000. The extra space is imaginary, but then so is their friendship because Trump only loves Trump and Rudy is finding that out.
To be fair, also born at the right time to have a mobile phone as a convenience that allowed you to stay in touch as you went places. As opposed to a smartphone, aka voluntary shackle that keeps you indoors doom scrolling social media.
A 2000lb bomb "can cause high casualty events and can have a lethal fragmentation radius – an area of exposure to injury or death around the target – of up to 365 meters (about 1,198 feet), or the equivalent of 58 soccer fields in area." Israel dropped hundreds in the first month alone. The USA dropped just one ever during all the time they were fighting ISIS.
But Biden and his administration care about limiting civilian casualties. They really mean it - do you folks want another press release? I'm sure we can get more heartfelt looks and earnest words from the White House press rep about serious commitments to ethics and how they're making sure Israel is innocent of wrongdoing.
Honestly, I gave up on the idea of personal privacy some time around the Snowden, Assange, Patriot Act, etc. era. I just assume now that info like name/address, political views, or what porn I surf are available to government agencies and probably others willing to pay for them.
The defining characteristic is usually direct oversight/power. Can the person reward/punish/fire you? If so then there are ethical concerns involved in a relationship (although a relationship may not be strictly forbidden). Is the person an authority figure like a police officer? Same deal.
Relationships are complex enough that judgments should be, and to the best of my knowledge often are, made on a case-by-case basis. E.g. of course police officers can still have relationships, but they can't say "Date me if you don't want a ticket". For bosses working every day with employees it's also tricky. In the professional circles I know of it's considered risky for a boss to be sleeping with an employee but not forbidden. What is outright illegal is pressuring an employee into a relationship of any kind. Sexual/romantic relationships can still happen, but consent has to be clearly stated and unforced.
From the American Medical Association (and many other countries have similar guidelines): "In general, physicians should not treat themselves or members of their own families. However, it may be acceptable to do so in limited circumstances:
- In emergency settings or isolated settings where there is no other qualified physician available. In such situations, physicians should not hesitate to treat themselves or family members until another physician becomes available.
- For short-term, minor problems."
I still have a 13-year Reddit account but I went from posting several times a week last year to never in the last few months because of abusive moderation. I got banned for a comment saying the US should take the money it gives Israel and give it to Ukraine instead, in those words (no hate speech, no rules broken). When I appealed the only reply was an insult, and when I messaged the mod team I got a 3-day site wide ban from the Reddit moderation team for harassment (I wasn't abusive at all, just asked why I had been banned and for more feedback than a 4-word insult). I never received any other communication than being insulted, not even clarification on what rule I'd broken, so they lost me.
For what it's worth, about a month in Lemmy feels more like old Reddit where you can have disagreements with people without mods stepping in and banning the side they disagree with. I keep it civil even in disagreement and so far so good. I only go back to Reddit to check on specialty boards (like video game tips etc) and don't interact.
I grew up heavily Pentecostal/Evangelical Christian - speaking in tongues, demons are real and possess people, God strikes down the wicked and regularly works miracles, etc. My whole childhood I was surrounded by hundreds of people who did not care about proof. They actually believe the universe is 6,000 years old, that God killed every person, plant, and animal on dry land in a Flood that covered even the highest mountain (~9km) and more nonsense.
So believing that Jesus was literally an impeccably groomed, attractive blue-eyed white man with a bodybuilder's physique in the Classical Era Middle East is well within the limits of these people's credulity. They believe things because they are told to do so from childhood, not because they've done their homework.
