  • Just checked it on F-droid. Last updated 13 months ago. This is a fork of another project whose creator walked back the FOSS stance of his projects. Forks were immediately produced, but no real work has been done. I'm using two of these apps, and have no real hope that they will be maintained in any meaningful way.

I'd explore these with caution, unless you're looking for near-abandoned projects to adopt, in which case these may be worth your time to look into. What is there looks good, but without active maintenance it's an encroaching storm of security risks.

  • What better way to grasp the impact of an activity than by doing it? Of course this can be harmful - if every visitor to a natural reserve picked a flower, eventually that reserve would have no more flowers. But it can certainly bring that impact home when you're in the midst of the results of many insignificant actions.

  • It's kind of funny how many non-Italian things go into making that distinctly Italian food, pizza. I don't think of this as a criticism, but a credit to them, that they will unashamedly take those things they can't find or weren't originally found in their region and make them their own.

Just remember, it takes exploring half the world to make a Hawaiian pizza.

  • Thos is a false trail. We certainly may be missing signs of life that don't follow patterns we aren't looking for, but that has no bearing on this case. The argument in this case would be if there were paths we knew of that could produce these chemicals that don't involve life, or paths that involve life on earth but could develop without life being present to produce these chemicals elsewhere. If we can't rule these options, and possibly others I haven't thought of, out, then we may only be left with alien life being the source of these chemicals.

  • If you believe in rule by the people, secession needs to be a valid option. It's how America was founded, and it's more or less how Canada was founded. Now, using it as some sword of Damocles is harmful to society, but calling those who want to leave criminals isn't helpful. In the opinion of Quebec, 50% plus one is sufficient. Perhaps I don't agree with that, but I think it's the minimum that should be acceptable. But I think it's less of a crime to say the nation is no longer serving the will of some significant segment of the populace and that they wish to have the final say in their governance.

That said, capitulation to a foreign power at the expense of your nation is a different issue.

  • I'm not sure how this works, but I checked your posting history and it didn't show up there, either. I guess the great weakness of the fediverse is if the links are interrupted. Perhaps it was due to instance maintenance or something.

  • 25% of Canadians are no longer virgins by 12, which means that 12 is too late to start discussing it for 25% of the audience.

I started talking to my kids about it when they were about 5, and made it a policy to answer any question they asked at the level of detail they asked, with the exception of personal details in my own sex life. I think it worked out pretty well, even if it wasn't exactly comfortable. Did have to say to one of my now-married kids that I'm happy they have a healthy sex life, but I'd prefer the sex paraphernalia not be left in the common areas when we stop by.

  • There is good evidence that natural gas infrastructure is so leaky that it could well be worse than coal on the GHG front. Now, coal is still the leader in a lot of other areas, and we're better off moving away from both of them, but the argument that coal is better than natural gas isn't completely without merit.

  • The other responder isn't correct, but I'd say there is definitely a push for all the problems in American education. The former Minister of Education in Manitoba went to Tennessee for ideas on funding higher education. I've also heard of pushes for chartered schools and being able to transfer school taxes to the institution of your choice. All of these ideas promote a disparity in education which generally favors the wealthier.
