There's a setting you can turn on that increases the sensitivity, which should fix the issue. It works perfectly fine for me with a screen protector

I resonate with this. The summer break is the perfect time to make this decision. You've had a majority of the races, and the faster driver will be ahead. If the other driver's unhappy he's had enough races to prove himself. He can try again next year.
