  • Yep. I'd rather not have a propane stove, but I live in an area with a lot of power outages. We have a propane generator for backup power. Makes no sense to size to generator to run and induction stove when we can just use our, properly installed, propane stove.

  • I'm here still wearing a 20 year old Veritas t-shirt I got at a conference. I bought some warmer underwear when I moved from Australia to Canada. Nothing gets thrown out until it's worn transparent and then "thrown out" means moved to the garage to use as rags. I really really don't get the whole disposable fashion thing.

  • I'm on starlink too. Bell recently ran fibre by my front door but I won't be switching when they come knocking. During hurricane Fiona my starlink kept working as long as I gave it power. Bell took 2 months to get out and repair my neighbours downed phone line! If the fibre was in the ground I'd switch, but I don't want my internet coming through 50km of rickety poles along tree lined roads.

  • I'm writing this from a hotel room paid for by Air Canada - but wow did I have to fight for it!

First flight of two leg journey was delayed and the original announcement was that it was delayed due to a mechanical issue. I knew I had a tight connection so checked with Air Canada staff - they assured me that if I missed my connection they would put me in a hotel until the next available flight. After about an hour delay they announced that they had discovered bird strike damage and we would be delayed further.

When I arrived at the connection airport I was told there would be no hotel as the delay was due to a bird strike and therefore out of their control. I was tired and cranky and went full "Karen mode" asked to speak to managers, explained what I was told at the original airport and finally got a hotel voucher.

I wonder if there is publicly available data on the incidence of aircraft bird strikes? I wonder if they are increasing? I'm not cynical..

  • I agree that defederating and banning the bot are effectively the same. Defederating seems a bit cleaner to me, so that's what I voted for.

If people really want the content they can still go directly to the instance and get it. I know that seems to go against the grain of the fediverse and I'm still struggling with that.

  • It's a bit hard to follow what you're asking, but it seems like the answer is in your question - if you're taking the A610 stay in the left lane, as marked. If you're exiting after the A610 use the right lane. What am I missing?
