Didn't help that the games weren't there for it either. But the vicious cycle of "console needs games to sell units -> devs won't make games for consoles that don't sell" was in full effect for the 7800, and really any Atari console after the 2600, except maybe their Lynx handheld (which still lived in the Game Boy monolith's shadow just like every other competing handheld).

There were popular MMOs before WoW, such as Runescape and Everquest. WoW just took a popular genre and rocketed it into the stratusphere.

Legend of Zelda OoT followed up with popularizing a targeting button (good ol' Z-targeting) to focus on one object or enemy in a 3D space and move around it or fight/otherwise interact with it. Such targeting has been a standard feature of 3D action-adventure games ever since.

Of the games I can think of, probably Super Mario Land.

Servers are the one thing I've generally heard people agree that snaps are good for, so given its history it's a bit of a strange thing to hear of Ubuntu being a better server distro than desktop distro nowadays.

My Switch hasn't seen any playtime in the past couple weeks 'cause I've been watching the Olympics, but I have one more chapter to go in Paper Mario: TTYD remake that I'll probably go back to once the Olympics are over.

I did dust off my 3DS one afternoon and finally continue some progress in Fire Emblem Echoes. I'm almost through that game as well, and then to complete my playthroughs of the 3DS Fire Emblem games I have both versions of Fire Emblem Fates waiting on the docket. I've generally heard Conquest is better (for gameplay at least) between the two but both are something of "black sheep" in the series. Since the eShop shut down I won't be able to play Revelations, but from what I understand that's a good thing, lol.

While I largely agree with your point, as an Odysee user myself I know there is a visible amount of actual Neo-Nazi content there. That said, such channels are not difficult to block on the user end on the platform so you don't see them after the first time, there's not so much that it's a constant annoyance, and there is still plenty of worthwhile content on Odysee to watch, including various YouTubers who mirror their content to the platform. While the Neo-Nazi content is harder to find on Rumble, it's more politically focused and feels like it's more meant to be "right-wing YouTube" whereas you can actually find more of a variety of viewpoints on Odysee.

I'm pretty "basic" in my choices. Both Zelda titles, Mario 64, Mario Kart, the three Mario Parties, StarFox 64, Diddy Kong Racing, Kirby 64, Banjo-Kazooie. I just bought an N64 a few weeks ago partially because I wanted to experience the games I had growing up again and also play a bunch I missed. I tried Mischief Makers because it looked interesting and I enjoy the unique mechanics but the controls are hard to master enough to feel like I even have a basic handle on them.

I'm a centrist but I lean slightly right, and I've used Linux for 15 years. There are plenty of conservatives who use Linux for the privacy and security advantages it offers. At least one of the Linux YouTubers I watch is quite conservative. That said, Linux dev communities don't tend to take kindly to conservative members voicing opinions while many allow left-wing opinions free rein, and some distro devs have openly stated they don't want conservatives using their software. They should either allow political opinions from everyone or nobody, IMO. I'd say preferably just leave politics out of it altogether, FOSS should be open to be used by anyone regardless of politics or any other factors.

GNOME is more different from Windows, which means that users will have to put more effort in to get used to the UI, but it doesn't have as many complicated settings or customizability for EVERYTHING that Plasma does, so it can be less confusing in that sense. I switched to primarily using Plasma a couple years ago and I'm probably with Plasma to stay, but personally I think GNOME might be better for Linux beginners. Though if you really want a beginner-friendly DE, go for Cinnamon.

Definitely, XP was by far the best version of Windows. (Telling that I switched to Linux in the Vista era).

The original had a release to quite a limited geographic area (IIRC just Japan and Scandinavia) so it's a bit of a "holy grail" for retro collectors. Interesting that they're making a sequel.

Even the privacy/security people I follow say that despite Big Tech (MS, Google, Apple, etc) being privacy nightmares, they are pretty solid on their security, or at least no less secure than the alternatives. But when you combine efforts to maintain that security with those privacy nightmares, you get what you mention.

I think our parents eventually made us give them back in the end, but my brother and I certainly held on to a bunch of our friend's Game Boy games a lot longer than he originally meant to lend them to us. We fell out of contact with him after high school.

I think some other threads on similar subjects have said that's basically because of the Elden Ring DLC.
