  • There is an obvious answer here that both the author and the people in this thread are ignoring.

Driving as a transportation method is a high risk/cost high flexibility/comfort solution.

Pretty much everyone who has accepted driving as their transportation method understands that it’s not the safest way, so a lot of drivers are always willing to take a little bit more risk to save money or something like that.

A better question is, why are we so okay with accepting such high risks for transportation. The human mind is terrible at risk assessment so I think it’s just a culture thing that car accidents are a part of life.

  • Depends how broad your definition of algorithm is. Is sort by upvotes an algorithm? I say no but sort by hot is.

So it is possible by this definition to have a feed without any algorithm.

  • The answer is money:

They want the economic power and freedom the middle class had in the post WWII era combined with the shameless selfishness of reganomics.

The reason why they can’t put those into a clear statement is because it’s a feeling, they don’t know why things were better in the past, so they express by rejecting the present and progress.

Remember, Hitler didn’t rally by talking about how great fascism is, he rallied by talking on an emotional level about greatness of the past. He spoke to people who were burned by rapid inflation but didn’t really talk about monetary policy, he sold them a vision of prosperity by “removing bad actors” (see DEI drama).

  • They want to go back to the good old days because from their perspective, it would benefit them. They would be right if they were rich.

Before Nazis, things like racism and oppressing the poor were all normal. In fact, only considering your own tribe’s interests is how humanity lived most its life.

With modern science and education we invented a post tribalistic society, we made tons of strides and started identifying through values and ideals (like the American dream). It’s truly next level from what came before.

Some people just dont like this level and want to go back, they think the grass is greener and it may be for some, but not for almost all of us (working class).

  • Although I really liked cyberpunk and I’ve finished both that and Witcher 3 and cyberpunk is my favourite…

Really? I thought Witcher 3 was iconic, like it broke out of the regular gaming culture and into the mainstream, idk if cyberpunk did that.

My world would be better if Witcher 4 is better than 3 but I have doubts

  • This is why FOSS with donation is actually a superior model.

I honestly rather download a free software and donate after I know that it’s good and I’ll know that I’ll always have access to it.

Paying for something that can be revoked (cause it’s a legally license, not owned) just doesn’t sound like ownership.

  • During desperate times, yes.

Hence why all fascists need a bogeyman.

If we were invaded by aliens and had to fight an epic war, then having the military be in charge would probably increase our odds.

It’s as if humans have an emergency override mode that was critical in the past but some people have figured out they could take advantage of it.

Naturally, the solution is education, so you don’t fall for attempts of power grab, hence the book burning.

  • You joke but there has been many movies (or games) that I just didn’t jive with but I still wanted to know how it ends.

The game soma was one of those, hated the survival horror but god damn that ending made an impact (even though I read it on Wikipedia).
