  • No one is pointing out that this was inevitable result of having more options.

When I was a kid, sure we had TV and video games, but they weren’t much. There was no big library, all the better graphics games were recent, and realistically you got a few games a year.

Me and my friends went to the movies cause there honestly wasn’t much better things to do. Having a home theatre meant having a tiny screen and a handful of movies you’ve seen many times if you happen to have a VCR. TV reruns were super old and had 5 mins of ads every 15 mins.

Did they really expect teenagers to be desperate to see a new flic when it’s no longer the only way to see new content?

  • The biggest problem with AI is that it’s the brut force solution to complex problems.

Instead of trying to figure out what’s the most power efficient algorithm to do artificial analysis, they just threw more data and power at it.

Besides the fact of how often it’s wrong, by definition, it won’t ever be as accurate nor efficient as doing actual thinking.

It’s the solution you come up with the last day before the project is due cause you know it will technically pass and you’ll get a C.

  • At least VR does what it promised, unlike crypto and AI.

I also think there are economic reasons, we don’t live during a time when people can buy expensive toys.

Steam deck was a hit because it was economical, just $500 and have access to a whole PC.

  • Lots of good gems, this one got me:

1980 - Alan Kay creates Smalltalk and invents the term "object oriented." When asked what that means he replies, "Smalltalk programs are just objects." When asked what objects are made of he replies, "objects." When asked again he says "look, it's all objects all the way down. Until you reach turtles."
