  • A low-uptime server to backup my current one

Or a really crazy sex toy maybe, depends on how responsible I'm feeling

  • YESSS I fucking nailed it. I belong in a writers room

  • For a second I thought this was some brainrot BG3 mod that makes Withers look Balenciaga-style

  • It's an amazing premise. We're talking about a world where 364 days out of the year, the few normal people who are naturally kind sit and watch weird assholes try to justify their shitty actions.

Even crazier: a world where non-purgers become vigilantes during non-purge days, taking vengeance on people who brag about their crimes. Nobody suspects them because they play it cool every purge day.

They become popular, get caught, and the movie ends in a peaceful revolution to stop the purge and end the series.

  • Did I overlook something in the article? They didn't say how they know what ICE might do, only a speculative sentence about how they might do it.

  • I don't think there is such a thing as a left wing echo chamber. We bicker incessantly. The other day I was making a joke at the expense of the car-brain mentality and someone came at me for ableism.

I'm not mad at them, it's just illustrative of my point. We don't take shit from each other, and we take each other to task over jokes. The right will, meanwhile, forgive literal pedophilia, rape, and murder of each other. I'm sure as hell not saying we should, but we will never create an echo chamber as good as they do because of that.

  • Flirting is just part of seduction. It's not just to "make intentions known", people are more dynamic than that. Being flirted with will often actually create feelings that weren't there before. If you enjoy how someone makes you feel, you open up and become closer. Merely being liked by someone can be quite flattering.

  • That's darkly solipsistic. Risky sort of thought to entertain. Life is chaos and it's all real. Just do your best and be kind to yourself, and others.

  • I think it's a mindset thing. A boombox means you're thinking about an audience. Consideration is implicit.

  • My double standard is that when I see someone with a boombox playing music in public, I'm chill and open to it. When someone does the same thing on their phone, I must work to enhance my calm.

Is it the sound quality? Maybe in part. But there's more to it.

  • My wife and kid have ADHD and raising just one is genuinely the hardest thing I've ever attempted, and I have been fortunate enough to rely on the strongest romantic bond of anyone I know. A kid with hyperactivity, emotional disregulation, executive dysfunction and all is just constant stress. Getting them help is expensive and takes forever. We've been on a waitlist for a year after fronting rent money to get him evaluated.

  • Solipsism, yeah maybe.

  • Can you try to figure out whether this person is hilarious or anti-intellectual? I scratched my chin off trying to spot the difference

  • It actually would be a way cooler name for the element.

  • I'd only heard of council juice

  • You know how if you've got something really biting and witty you want to say to someone, so you kind of manufacture a little segue just so you can fire it off?

Yesterday my republican co-worker did that just so she could say "juneteenth, pff whatever". That is what she considers comedy.

Edit to add: she paused to laugh at that point as if to invite me to share in the joke. She really is that dreary of a person.

  • The Aussie slang "I'm not here to fuck spiders" just took on a bitter but satisfying depth and flavour
