My point still stands. You can't use hate, ignorance, and authoritarianism to defeat hate, ignorance, and authoritarianism. The only thing that will end up happening is you turning hateful, ignorant, and authoritarian. We have already seen this happen time and time again. It's time for people to learn from history for once instead of just repeating it. Censorship NEVER works, authoritarianism NEVER works. The very reason why the people you described ever get into power is because of people like you who fall into a brainless cycle of purity tests, arrogance, and exploitation of power. You want to see bigots stop being bigots? Try talking to them. Not talk down to them, not convince them of anything, just try to understand why they think the way they do, how they came to be, and how they perceive the world. By understanding them you can find some common ground and from there you can introduce to them alternative ideas like tolerance, justice, coexistence, and peace. You can't ban bigots, you can't censor them, you can't genocide them, and no amount of power abused will make them go away. Talking them is the only way. Keep mind talking to them isn't a sign of weakness or a concession. Virtue signaling means fuck all when it makes things worse. Talking to people, having them exposed to new ideas and views, and treating people you don't like (even if they're vile) as humans is how a black man in the US managed to convince dozens of KKK klansmen into giving up their robes.
The issue with this mentality is that creates a viscous cycle that leads to extremism. When you close yourself off to ideas, you rob yourself the exposure to different perspectives and criticism. You will only hear what you want to hear, aka an echo chamber. The issue with echo chambers is that the lack of intellectual diversity and criticism allows more extreme views to take hold. For example, it's easy for an echo chamber to justify imprisoning people they don't like because everyone thinks the same and there's nobody to challenge the bad ideas. Free speech can't be used and applied selectively. It has to be universal and it has be genuinely free. Extreme ideas will get criticized, moderate and pragmatic ideas will rise. There's a reason why genuine democracies tend be tame politically and against extremism. Your mentality lets radicals stay radical while at the same time turning yourself into one. You have to hear different ideas, views, and perspectives even if you disagree, get offended, or think they're vile. Hate, authoritarianism, and ignorance can't be defeated with more hate, authoritarianism, and ignorance.
The only people that I have ever seen bitch and moan about centrists are Marxists... Who are just as ignorant, violent, hateful, extreme, delusional, and brain dead as their Fascist friends. I'll take a centrist any day of the week over a Marxist or a Fascist
God nothing is more annoying than brain damaged American progressives who think they're intellectuals. Even if we ignore your strawman, the very idea that there are people who are close minded enough to actually actively refuse to even be exposed to any ideas that they might dislike or disagree with is insane. Keep in mind, the tolerance paradox says that intolerant ideas shouldn't be tolerated, it doesn't say that you should go full 1984 censoring and controlling information and turning authoritarian on anything you deem intolerant. The whole point of the paradox is to demonstrate that if a society wants to remain free and democratic, then it needs to oppose intolerance and authoritarianism in all its forms... via democratic processes. Otherwise, it's another society that has become corrupted. The principles of liberty and democracy, as well as their universality, should never be abandoned.
10/10 times somebody seethes at the idea of merely listening to ideas that they might dislike or disagree with is some extremist whacko who gets all their information from a heavily vetted and censored echo chambers.
Hearing other perspectives doesn't make somebody an enlightened centrist, it makes them knowledgeable and more aware. There's nothing wrong with gathering perspective and context before judging something, that's what people should always do. It's a sign of wisdom, not ignorance. You would have to be mind numbingly ignorant to actually believe that being in echo chambers is a good thing.
This place is like Reddit, but somehow worse
Hi I'm a vegan non binary athiest who uses arch... W... Wait, please don't leave me! I haven't told you that I crossfit 3 times a week. WAIT, don't start running, I haven't fully showed you how empty and insufferable my personality... Awww, and they're gone. Oh well, I guess I'll go tell my neighbor about my vinyl collection again
The CCP publishes Marxist propaganda. It's not really not that complicated.
Lol Marxists calling anybody an idiot is peak irony. You're subhuman trash. You're just as bad, if not worse than nazis. You're just as hateful, violent, ignorant, extreme, and irrational as nazis. You're ideology is just as failed, just as murderous, and just as delusional. The scum of the Earth trying claim moral superiority is comical.
To be fair, hexbears are also mentally ill
I would have a small section near the house that I would use as a typical backyard, but I would want the majority of the land to be like a mini nature preserve (whether it's natural or engineered). Just chilling in your own slice of nature without the threat of government incompetence or corporate greed sounds great to me
The issue here is that you're adding connotations to the term that aren't there. Being vegan just simply means not consuming animal products. There's no ideology attached to it. It's not something that's inherently political. People can be, and many are, vegan for health, religious, or personal reasons. You can't claim your personal views on being vegan are the only ones. You don't have exclusive ownership of the term. I personally don't care how you feel about veganism, my point is that veganism is a lot more broad and apolitical than people like you, who tend to have myopic views, claim it to be.
See the issue here is that a lot of these Reddit activists, they start out with a good cause that a lot of people could be sympathetic towards but they end up taking it too far because they're all terminally online extremists.
Here's a few examples:
Veganism: A lot of people are on board with treating animals better and eating more plants, but Redditors take it too far by advocating for the complete ban of meat and the prosecution of places like homeless shelters for providing turkeys on thanksgiving because that's genocide to them.
Cars: A lot people would agree that we should decrease dependency on cars because they're loud, they pollute, and they're dangerous, but Redditors take it too far by wanting to ban all cars with no exceptions even if the exception is for parents with disabled kids.
Atheism: A lot of people would consider the possibility of there being no God and that religions deserve criticism, but Redditors take it too far by wanting to force all religious people to convert to atheism... or else.
Work reform: A lot of people support the idea of having stronger work protections and better wages, but Redditors take it too far by either by being full blown tankies or by rejecting the idea of work all together, regardless of how delusional and impractical that is.
Feminism: Most people believe that women should have equal rights and treatment in society, but Redditors take it too far by being full blown misandrists who want to oppress all men and "liberate" women from them.
Not to mention how with every one of these types of communities you always have the classic "you're either with us or against us" mentality. Every disagreement makes a you a nazi/altright/bigot, their cause is totally comparable to the struggle against nazi Germany and the holocaust, and they are totally the good guys who have the total support of the general public (especially the young people) and that they're just a minor enemy (read: cartoon villain) away from achieving utopia.
The communities on here are just an extension of those, and they bring with them the same type of toxic idiots to this platform.
Lol American football is fun. Actually all the major American sports are fun. If that's what bothers you then you should find an instance or a platform that's not in English. Because most of the English communities are going to be dominated by Americans.
There's no escape. You will always fall victim to attention whoring posts about US politics.
Militant vegans give veganism a bad rep but there are a lot of people who are vegan for health reasons
Based on my time on the internet, the region with the most annoying political users is Europe. They almost always fall under one of these four categories:
- Western Europeans with a superiority complex with the US
- Western Europeans with an inferiority complex with the US
- Eastern Europeans who want to ethnically cleanse each other (Serbia and Albania, Greece and Turkey, Armenia and Azerbaijan, Armenia and Turkey, Bosnia and Serbia, Poland and Belarus, Poland and Russia, Russia and Ukraine, Ukraine and Hungary, and the list goes on and on).
- Ultra racist tankies, islamists, or neo nazis who want to see the collapse of the EU, the eradication of immigrants, and "independence from US occupation"
Per capita, they're second to none in ignorance, arrogance, and sheer whininess. However, they tend to get drowned out by the sheer amount American users on any given platform.
I once got called a Republican by some angry leftists on Reddit because I said I wanted a house that came with a lot of land.
It literally doesn't matter. Blocking yourself off from any ideas, no matter how tame or how extreme is something that's both sad and dangerous. Willful ignorance is a poison. It's not a sign of purity or strength, it's a sign of fear and weakness.
