  • I'm wondering where are the big names in the Democratic party and the left?

There is a palpable atmosphere of fear coming from a large population in America and there is silence from the "opposition" party. Why isn't Obama and Michelle organizing and speaking at rallies? Why aren't other prominent Democratic leaders not trying to rally support for a genuine resistance. Not the resistance of 2016, which I feel failed due to no true national leadership from the Democratic party.

Maybe this is happening and I just don't see it, but it sure feels like the national Democratic leaders and influencers just threw up their hands and said "well, we've tried nothing and we are all out of ideas. You're on your own to figure it out. But remember, if your leaderless pent up fear and anger turns to violence we won't support you."

  • It's good to reach out to WDJT-TV (DJT huh?) and tell them they are cowards. It's also good to reach out via her public social media and let Sam Kuffel know that what she did has support.

  • WTF

  • I kinda get the feeling that part of this was a loyalty test for main stream media to see how they were going to report on something that was obviously a nazi salute.

Was it going to be "Musk is swatting at fly, the liberal media goes off the rails with crazy nazi conspiracies." Or "Musk is a fucking nazi, he needs to be deported"

Which is going to get the "love" of this administration?

  • I would say that they are not just content with it they are actively undercutting attempts to build a strong charismatic leader from getting a foothold.

  • Yes I do.

If app A has an icon that when touched does a specific thing, and app B has the exact same icon that does the exact same thing there is nothing new to learn. The learning curve is flat.

If you are arguing about the ethical and legal aspect of one app using the exact same UI as another that is a different conversation and a good one to have.

  • Here is my (slightly off topic) rant.

Until the left gets a charismatic, intelligent, slightly bombastic, and passionate leader to inspire the population to truly organize and put pressure on the leadership nothing will change for the left - or it will change for the worse.

The progressive left has been leaderless since Bernie lost the primaries. He is still fighting but I feel like the left has abandoned him, and a few others, to carry the load. There is no leadership to inspire progressives to help lift his and other progressive leader's messages up. There is no "news maker" that can get the ideals of the progressive left out to the public. And until there is someone to take up that mantle the corporate Democrats will do fuck all other than complain a bit, because they don't feel any pressure to actually do anything substantial.

  • well the the learning curve for new users is flat and adoption of the app will be more acceptable to more people.

I think it's a smart idea - they can always make changes to the UI in time as the platform gets more people.

  • but the reality is that the vast majority of people don’t agree with many of the views that are overrepresented on left-wing social media platforms like Lemmy

Is this true? Or is this just "people you know" and what the media you consume tells you?

If it is true then adding in the sources of where you got this information would really help your argument. Hell you may actually get more people to agree with you if you have solid evidence of what you said.

If this is just what "feels" right to you or if this is just something that other people told you is right then maybe look into that and see if reality lines up with what you are feeling and hearing.

  • Right they are effective in becoming more of a leader and I'll admit I went off on a bit of a tangent with my previous comment. What I was getting at was there is a system that can at least fence in the C suite sociopath from getting out of control, but we don't have that system any more due in part to the sociopaths in power. So well maybe I'm just wrong.

  • so far I haven’t seen any credible systemic solutions

There are many credible systemic solutions to this problem but over the past 40+ years those solutions have been watered down and killed off.

    Things like:

    • High tax rate on the wealthy and a well funded IRS to enforce those laws
    • Strong regulations and well funded departments to enforce those regulations
    • Better education for the population at large and enough funding to give all members of the country free access to it
    • Strong labor unions and an well funded FTC to help protect them
    • A strong and FAIR justice system and the funding to keep it fair

    I'm sure there are others

  • Didn't some European country about 80 years ago decide to use their military to secure sovereign territories that they thought vital to their country?

  • Honestly this report could have rock solid evidence of treason, pedophilia, murder, drug usage/dealing and election tampering. It could have eye witness reports, links to video testimony, shit it could have trump himself admitting to doing all of these things and it would have 0 effect on the support he has.

Weirdly trump and his lawyers don't even seem to understand this.

  • Then trump gets to put in a worse person

  • It is a mental disease

Yes. As a completely uneducated non-certified internet therapist I'd say that disease is fear. I really believe that those people that strive for more and more do so to try to fix a fear of not having enough. Or a fear of not being enough. Instead of actually trying to recognize the this fear and controlling it, they just do the one thing that can temporarily make them less fearful and that is make more, control more.

  • Post polio syndrome hits people that contracted polio in the first place just 30+ years later. So you not hearing about it has more to do with you not knowing people that contracted polio than it's eradication.

  • I’m still pissed we as citizenry didn’t stand up and demand what we deserve

This will only happen if there is someone that the progressive democrats can get behind. Someone like Bernie but younger and more angry. Someone that will call out the bullshit and do it in a way that will get the attention of the big media corporations. I hate to say it but a progressive trump, but smarter (which shouldn't be difficult) and genuinely out to better the lives of the American citizens. And I genuinely hope that this unicorn exists.

  • The republicans didn't and I'm guessing don't like his political ideologies, they were waayy to progressive for even the 70's - 80's GOP. I also heard that he was a bit of a micro manager for a boss but people did like to work for him.

I always appreciated his more progressive ideas and we need at least that again soon. RIP Jimmy Carter.

  • I honestly liked the first one in isolation, it was when I watched all 4 back to back that I came to dislike the franchise. It was too much John Wick all at once I guess

  • The John Wick series

Watched them all over the course of a weekend - its the same fucking moving over and over and over and over again. The amount of disbelief I needed to suspend got exponentially larger so by the time I got to the last movie I just couldn't take it anymore. There is no real plot or any development of characters, it's just implausible fight scene after implausible fight scene.

I think if I put a few months between each movie I wouldn't have this opinion - on their own the movies can be mindlessly entertaining but all together was too much for me.
