  • I do it not really for myself, slow and steady i'm converting everyone I know to using my services

Sounds impossible, but some people already are using almost the whole suite and are happy. More and more people are asking if they can join.

The global sentiment is moving towards "tired of google", "tired of paying for bad services"

  • As i said i already have experience of hosting email, many different ways, etc

Will you use your selfhosted mail for important things? (Banking, official correspondence and so on)

I'm barely using email because have really few services that require an email (foss and selfhosting evangelism)

Can you promise a near 100% uptime? Otherwise, some email might not reach you.

I can promise you anything under these stars. And some of it would be true because my specialization is 0 downtime systems

How important is the Mail you send? Some (stupid) Blocklists generally block all IP ranges that are sold out by vps companies and other kinds of IAAS.

Never had any problems with the big hosters like do, linode, vultr, hetzner

If you register any accounts with your selfhosted mail, can you guarantee yourself that your email account is secure? Don't underestimate what an attacker can do with a compromised Mail account.

Selfhosting for many years, never got hacked because I take security seriously

Nowadays I pay a company to do the mail hosting

I'm trying not to pay companies when not necessary, and especially not for a "setup service"

  • For the system itself I would recommend nixos

Some people like it, some people are against progress and they think work should be manual 🤣

I'm using nixos and all my machines, even integrating my phone in it

You can automate and replicate unbelievable stuff with it. You solve a bunch of problems by using nixos

But it's a whole big rabbit whole, and it would take a lot of time to learn how to use it, then a lot of time to set everything up

But you could do zero downtime hardware maintenance without VMs or containers, just by using bare metal

Edit: or with VMs, containers, or k8s. Everything would be just cleaner and cooler

  • Also, reading your "oh" 😁

Drugs are fun, but I don't really worry about this, do rarely, don't like weed, i'm safe 😄

My biggest problem with drug usage would be not the authorities, but more general mood of the regular people. I don't like countries that are hostile to people partying, getting drunk, or high

It's hard to explain, it's just I've beeed to places that feel fun when you're high, and the opposite and they start calling the police (so I just think this stuff is very mean, and don't want to be around people like that)

  • Not many UIs can do containers and VMs

[Sorry for my not really well written reply, you really need to try different options, and in my opinion proxmox is like the only choice because of how many cool things you can do there]

Proxmox I just really good, and if you want to spin up VMs easily you will need to reshape your setup anyway

With proxmox you can do like everything with VMs, containers, etc. Not just managing only containers, or just showing status of the VMs

Also, proxmox is not really an operating system, it's a service on top of Debian (in many cases you start installing proxmox by installing Debian)

  • Get it, get it

But cameras are not the only concern, what's about internet traffic analysis, piracy, ability to rent something or get some service like sim or home internet without documents and stuff

Or even transportation, like busses, trains, etc

Don't get me wrong, i'm asking so I can have a better picture of how the stuff really works

  • Hehehe, I really like the answer and your mood 💖

About pixels and sim cards, I don't really use sim cards. For services that require phone numbers I use modems attached to my homeserver(of course no name), and access them with Lora mesh network(radio)

Your answer is actually really what I wanted to hear, good opinion on the current situation 👏

  • I know Europe is probably like the best place for digital privacy, but at the same time for me it's unsettling to see that some of the European cities are the most surveiled cities in the world, and how even countries in Europe are trying to ban e2e encryption

Add the 5-9-14 eyes, strict anti piracy rules in some countries, stories about people getting arrested for messaging something, or doing something political, and you will get a pretty grim picture

My main problem with this, I don't like being surveiled, nobody needs to have a thread model against being surveiled, because this is just nuts

Probably my stand is a little bit radical, I usually don't carry a sim card, use Lora for a remote access to my home server, I would never go to the land of free or use any of their services, same with the land of China

  • Wait a sec, are you saying this because of the "eyes beast"??

I meant 5-9-14 eyes alliances between countries to spy on each other's citizens

Also, I said it in a naruto "* tailed beast" way 😁

Or I just can't understand what you meant 😅😅😅

  • You're mostly correct. But they reason i'm paranoid because I just don't think it's a right thing to spy on people. I'm more kind of a free spirit and share love guy, and I don't like the idea of living in the world of lies being constantly observed

Edit: In addition, you never know what's going to be illegal tomorrow, you don't need anything to hide to feel disgusted about governments spying on people

  • ##Keyboards

    Florisboard is back!

Openboard is sadly outdated, but there was some steady updated fork

Simple keyboard (NOT the simple tools), but it doesn't have many fucntions, but works just great and looks on a million $

    ##Notes

Many good options, but i would like to see an gpg encrypted notes with local storage

    Honorable mentions: logseq, simple notes

    Maps

Gmaps WV (donate to divest, plz), organic maps

    ##Music

Everything that works with jellyfin, bauh was good, but not updated in a while
