  • I actually think a major part of the problem in US politics is that the balance of power is effectively upside down compared to most modern democracies.

Here in Ireland for example, we have three levels just like you: the Dáil is like the House of Representatives, the Seanad is the senate, and we both have presidents. However the head of government here is the leader of the largest party in the Dáil, and the other two are really figureheads. It means that other parties are way more involved in government and lessens the tendencies for a single figurehead to run rampant, changing stuff to suit himself every 4-8 years.

Ireland also uses PR, but we’ve actually gotten quite good at the vote counts, and we probably don’t have the same threat of bad actors in some other countries.

It’s the same in the UK - parliament is the actual government, while the House of Lords and the king are at this stage vestigial. But they use fptp, which is making it difficult to remove a minority government for the last dozen years or so.

  • Not plants per se, but we had a problem with one of our cats jumping up in the kitchen counter. So we put a few coins in a coke can and then shook it furiously every time he jumped up. You have to watch them for a while, but it doesn’t take long for them to learn.

  • I’m going to leave it there mate. Too many logical fallacies to even bother any more. Good luck to you, hope you’re delighted when the Israeli forces have “accidentally” bombed the last of their own hostages so they don’t have to hold back any more.

  • What the absolute fuck, you’re wilfully not understanding me.

I said that the Irish people were well versed in militant organisations committing atrocities in their name. Who do you think might be hoisting hamas flags?

how is that defending anyone carrying terrorist flags? The exact opposite: they’re fuckwits, who have no say in Irish political discourse any longer. But in the recent pro-Palestinian marches in Ireland, there were Palestinian flags, but no Hamas flags.

How can anyone expect a terrorist organisation to stand down when every atrocity is reciprocated ten-fold? Logically, that sort of response just leads to escalation.

All of Gaza is not Hamas. The vast majority are not combatants in a war. They’re just normal people, caught in the crossfire, watching their homes get destroyed, dying. That’s who I support. Fuck Hamas. Fuck war.

  • Oh my god are you still on the hamas flags that the Ira used to march with? I’m sure if you look close enough you’ll find Israelis who support Hamas. If you can find a verified, recent photo, I’ll believe you. But it’s certainly not widespread and not mainstream.

And how many times did the Ira and the uda say they’d never come to the table? Diplomacy works. And without wiping out a population, it’s the only thing that works.
