I had a lot of that experience with an app called Postman before I switched to Insomnia.rest for software development. Same thing with twitter after musk bought it.
I understand. But IMO this is a huge problem with federated server models: you're making that choice for everyone on the server.
Now keep in mind I don't know what they're posting on rammy lemmy instance. If they're doing some KKK shit over there I probably agree with you. But I'd say if it's just right wing Trumpies I'd say it's wrong to do that over political spectrum.
unless they're breaking standard Internet boilerplate rules I don't think it's a good idea. Free speech is a good thing but it always comes with idiots. It's a package deal. Let that reside at a user level. Remember there are extremists on the left just like there is the right.
Edit: One might consider too whether some of these are political propaganda accounts. This should be looked into especially now that AI is so widely available especially.
Write code to test your code then repl build and run it anyways and smoketest it to see if it actually works
Sounds like activities for people who don't have real work to do. These tech layoffs cut deep because there was so much fluff in the industry. I sort of blame these companies that marketed devops too hard and oversold overcomplicated solutions, but it's also the fault of the tech leads advising managers.
I miss his FX show. He's a great comedian. Glad he came out and apologized and even made fun of himself a bit. I don't believe in eternal damnation of public figures like that unless people get physically harmed.
This year. I gave it a VPS with plenty of cores and memory too. It's like once I got it working it would work for awhile right, nbd. But then when I'd join a federated room over on matrix.org it would literally take days to add it. I even smoke tested it with their federation tester.
The lockout I'm describing is like an auth bug. The moment you sign in in a couple different places it has trouble unencrypting messages and even if you verify the other devices identity it will act like it's still unrecognized, and delete messages. It happened to my girlfriend, then my friend, then me. Twice in two separate attempts to use it daily. I tried using it as a complete iMessage replacement across all platforms so I'm saying I was using it heavily.
And yeah I used docker too. It's a neat concept it just falls apart at scale from what I've literally seen twice. Doesn't matter what client I used either.
Oh god matrix is such a bitch to handle and deal with, laggy and just in need of so much work. I'll be so happy to have an alternative.
I used it and hosted it for months with friends and family and we all got locked out due to bugs and had neighboring federated servers that wouldn't connect.
People are so quick to forget.
Back when Netflix came out it's appeal was offering movies for viewing online. People scoffed at it because TV was king and Netflix wasn't on TV yet, smart TVs weren't a thing and Roku had to be built as a middleman. "Why would I pay for that". No one believed in the products in the way that people believe in Netflix and YouTube or Google or even twitter today.
Today every tv is smart, YouTube has a YouTube TV app, all these media companies have their own apps like paramount and ESPN, and people are willing to pay.
I don't understand how the hell people even work jobs that don't make minimum of $30/hour at least in California and even parts of the East Coast. Like your rent is $1600-$2200. At 0.8*3200 for $ 20/hour with taxes your take home is $2560 for a 40 hour work week. So what are you just not eating that month?
How about healthcare transportation medical 401K literally anything? Pruning of benefits didn't happen because of corporate greed it happened because people just accepted what they were offered. In the Midwest where apartments might be closer to $700-$900 a month some of this works but on the coasts rent is usually twice that. And a car to get most places is $400 a month with insurance supposing you have the credit.
I work in IT and programming, and Id love to do physical labor and talk to real humans rather than salamanders in silicon valley. But the jobs I see don't even break $30 an hour. Yet it costed me $27 for ham and cheese and altoids, not even including bread where I live in the bay area. It is fucking expensive.
I feel like America is doing so many things ass backwards greed first. But it's not like I have the experience of living overseas or in Canada or otherwise so I don't have much to compare it to, so it's safer by default to live with the devil you know than the one you don't.
