  • Leave if you want. I really don't care.

I know you don't, that's the problem. I moderate a very small community for man united supporters which is supposed to be an alternative to reddit to discuss football. I feel like I'm contributing plenty, but if even if I wasn't, I'm contributing more than people who actively discourage users from sticking around.

Shouldn't we be encouraging users to lemmy? Doesn't it hurt the overall experience if there are fewer users and opinions? Won't it just become an even more extreme echo chamber than reddit?

I'm sorry that I apparently haven't taken the post in the jokey way it was intended, but it does highlight a number of issues with the lemmy userbase, surely you can agree with that at least?

Accusing someone of using something "straight from Reddit's playbook" is (ironically) copy pasted straight from the lemmy playbook. I'm not accusing evrryone of anything, just pointing out the problems I see with a large portion (not all) of users.

Anyway, I'm all about enjoying life. I enjoy it less here than I feel like I could and it seems to be very detrimental to the growth of lemmy.

Edit: I called someone an entitled renter because they were pissed off that their friend had decided to sell their house. Is that unfair...?

  • A joke I didn't understand, or a joke I didn't find funny...?

Jokey or not, there's no denying that users here frequently just write off opinions as wrong if it doesn't match theirs exactly. Whether they're correct or not it's not a nice place for discussion when the pervading mentality is one of superiority for a large portion of users (and yes this can be said for reddit too).

I don't want to support the poor practises of corporations. More than that though I don't want to cut off my nose to spite my face, and when the feeling from the alternatives is one of non-acceptance that's exactly what it feels like I'm doing.

Not sure I'll be here much longer to be honest, the world won't be changed by people who base their personalities on being morally superior while denigrating anyone who doesn't follow their beliefs exactly. You'll piss people off, but you won't change their minds, and ultimately everyone's a loser as a result.

  • This mentality is why lemmy has been haemorrhaging users since the July reddit migration.

You guys are some seriously judgmental bellends a lot of the time.

I don't use Linux because I want my life to be simple, I use lots of Foss and lots of non Foss because I want my life to be simple. I'm glad others care enough about privacy to fight for it because that's a demonstrably good thing in the world, but I just want a simple life and don't honestly care if I'm getting tailored ads and Amazon are listening to my inane kitchen conversations.

I don't want to support reddit but you guys (ironically) make it much much harder to leave when there is next to no acceptance here for anyone who's not a Linux expert who pushes for communism and has never used a Google product in their life.

    I know I know, I'm everything that's wrong with the world :) x

  • I see so many of these attitudes (whether correct or not. I'm not here to argue) and it just makes Lemmy an awful place to try and enjoy my free time.

You guys make reddit look palatable, let that sink in.....

  • My brother was riding his motorbike when a car turned across his path having not seen him, he was doing 30mph and was launched off the bike, flew over the car, and landed directly on his elbow.

9 hours of surgery rebuilding his arm and now it's half metal and has about 30-45 degrees of movement. There was serious talk about amputation early on so he kinda got lucky (also lucky to land on an arm rather than his head obviously!)

Motorbikes may be fun and economical but fuck driving them around other cars, eventually you'll run into a bad driver and if you're unlucky that could be the end for you.

  • You can excite water to the extent that it starts changing it's state of matter by employing a method of electricity generation which makes use of the subject we are trying to excite and subsequently powering a device which does the aforementioned excitement of water!

  • Honestly, no I'm far from an expert in political or economic matters. I'm just yet to see a system proposed that could work in reality given how complex humans are and how "value" is almost impossible to define when everyone sees it differently.

Plenty of countries have tried though and none have made it work from what I've seen. This is possibly (probably) a gross oversimplification but ultimately someone (or some group) ends up at the top of the tree and unless that group is uncorruptable forever it ends with imbalance.

Asking everyone to share as needed and own nothing would be great if everyone wanted everyone else to be equally happy and nobody was trying to take more for themselves (and if everyone had the same idea of what everything is worth). I think at the very least we can agree that some people are more selfless than others and other people will always exploit that given an opportunity.

  • One is taught from birth and has a history of indoctrination that both you and me would likely also fall for in the same situation.

The other is willful ignorance with no historical reason to believe it and full denial of most science.

I'm not religious at all, I am happy to openly mock God and dare him to strike me down, I really don't care. But laughing at the PEOPLE who believe it through no fault of their own is pure douchebaggery.

We're fortunate to have the opportunity to learn about and assess the situation with as much knowledge as we like, plenty of people don't have the same opportunity or were taught the beliefs long before they could reason any differently. 5000 years ago you'd be praising the sun God with the rest of us, everything from that to now is just shades of grey, and you're pretty unlikely to be some special individual that derived all science from first principles and concluded that God was impossible.

You're basically just claiming to be better due to the circumstances you found yourself in (through no fault of your own). Seems like properly cunty behaviour to me, and only a stones throw from laughing at the poor for not being born into wealth.

    You dick :) x

  • Interesting that you deleted the explanation of the post where you got annoyed with your "friend" for choosing to sell their house for a good price in an aconomic downturn...

    What a douche eh!?

  • Sounds like a decent investment decision! And sounds like they have stupid neighbours, I'd want to move too!

And obviously they own a portfolio of properties and is just looking to fuck over their friend, as opposed to getting a good price and upgrading the house they own?
