  • I haven't no, I would argue you're not blocking the screen though, you're part of it. And using analogue joysticks doesn't sound even slightly intuitive in the way true skate is. I'm sure it's fun but doesn't sound like the same experience at all. When I say they're moreorless what your feet would need to do that'd because it's based on where you place them on the board and how you move them in relation to that.

Perfectly happy to disagree though as that's kinda my point in this thread, everyone likes what they like but a lot of people in here stating things as if their preference is just a fact.

Mobile games have a place and don't need to be the cash grabby advertising hangers that a lot of people think of when you say mobile game. You just need to hunt them down a bit more to find the good ones.

I like games of almost all genres and will happily sink 100 hours into a console/PC game too, but it feels like an oversimplification to write off mobile games as a whole.

  • But that doesn't replicate feet on a board. In true skate you literally position your fingers on the screen so they mimic feet on a board, and the movements required for your fingers are moreorless that of your feet in real life skating.

I'm definitely not saying there isn't a way to control the game, or that games don't exist with similar play styles, but taking away the actual placement of fingers on the board onscreen would take away an awful lot of the reason people enjoy it, and it wouldn't be the same game.

  • None of the examples you listed would be a good version of true skate, you swipe with two fingers simultaneously in different directions and at different speeds to get the tricks you're looking for, the idea being that each finger is a foot on a skateboard. It is pretty unique and one of the better mobile games out there.

A PC mouse is your hand with one finger and lots of buttons... How would I use the multiple fingers you refer to to simultaneously move up with one and down with the other?

I don't think anyone is arguing that mobile does everything better.... Obviously a keyboard can make more use of multiple buttons than a touchscreen, that's also true vs a controller but that exists too. Simplicity is sometimes what people want or need, I like being able to play games on a train journey so finding the decent mobile ones is very worth doing for me.

Also why does this comment read so angrily? We're talking about casual gaming, just chill.

  • Well, I guess it's time for my biannual reinstallation of true skate!

Mobile games get a lot of shit for some very valid reasons, but so many have written them off entirely because of the microtransactions and/or touchscreen controls when there are some very good games that don't suffer from either of these issues.

You're absolutely right though, it allows for things like true skate to exist which is brilliant. And if you can be bothered to hunt out the good paid games you can avoid microtransactions entirely. Bloons Td6 is arguably the best value game I've ever paid for given the hours I've sunk into it over a year or so. Cost me £6 once and has never asked for another penny.

Also the room series is fantastic, as is monument valley. The good ones are out there, but people will download a few free games, get bombarded by ads and microtransaction "deals" and write off the whole genre.

  • No squash is very different to fresh juice. It's also called cordial but cordial tends to be far "syruppier" and may be slightly different, I'm not sure.

You mix 1 part squash with 6ish parts water (depending on preferred strength) and drink.

Ribena and Robinsons are the squash kings in the UK, just a very easy way to mix up some flavoured water basically.

  • My 10month old son has always just shut up and listened whenever sound of silence comes on (the disturbed version, he doesn't care for S+G it seems) and that was my number 1 by a distance I think.

367 listens, so more than daily, I don't mind though as it's a proper banger and I could listen to David Draimans voice forever.

  • My wife is half Jamaican and half Iranian, she went to a school in a very working class part of a very ethnically diverse city in the UK, with most of the school having a familial origin in the middle east or India.

She was routinely bullied for being black and called the N word on a daily basis. She was made to feel like a troublemaker for reporting it to teachers and eventually snapped, her kickboxing lessons helped her break a boy's nose with a kick to the face after years of abuse, and she got suspended for it while nobody ever faced any consequences for their racism.

People don't want to punish wrongdoing, they want to keep things "simple" and not have to deal with anything they feel awkward about, so they ignore the repeated "small" incidents and only acted to punish the retaliation because it's deemed disproportionate. Years of racism to the point of having no friends because people were scared of being seen to sympathise apparently isn't as damaging as an afternoon in A+E and some minor discomfort for a week or so. Fuck that school and fuck this mentality.

This story seems like a worse version and we're 20 years on. I'm sure it happens way more than we see in stories like these, they're just swept under the rug and hope nobody calls them on it. Fuck this backwards ass world.

  • I will never install Linux because I'll never trust that it'll be easier to use than windows, and that's all I want.

I can't count the number of people that have told me I should be on Linux and that if I use Mint it'll be a piece of perfect cake, despite me also seeing comments like this on a pretty regular basis.

Why is it that so much of the community REFUSES to acknowledge any shortcomings? Almost like it's their child and you're personally attacking their parenting by suggesting its not flawlessly simple.

  • And there are loads of excuses already. No need to manufacture an extra one! I wonder how many Michelin star restaurants in the UK claim to serve traditional British food though.

But genuinely, does the rest of the world dislike fish and chips, roast dinners, fried breakfasts, and pies? I know the stereotype has been around forever but I always had trouble believing that most non British people wouldn't really like those foods.

  • There are some great paid mobile games too though.

I've played nothing on my phone but bloons td6 for a year or so now, cost £6 and I'm nowhere close to maximising the content available.

Then you have shorter (but brilliant) games like the room series, monument valley, machinarium.

Not all are F2P microtransaction excuses with an ad every 30seconds. But I totally sympathise with the frustration and don't play F2P mobile any more either.

  • You're missing my point bud. Everything is hot compared to something at 0 kelvin.

Everyone is left compared to the most right wing person, everyone is right compared to the most left wing person. It's why people here often claim reddit is right leaning, despite it heavily favouring the left.

Being the most anything is rarely good, extremes prevent people seeing the other side way too often and very few subjects are 100% anything, most have nuance.

Just making a joke about why someone might accuse you of being a fascist.
