  • Chinese government overreach? Surely hell has frozen over /s

  • Everything seems like the biggest deal when you've been alive for such a short time.

  • There once was a man named Harry Seldon...

  • Home-grown or store-bought?

  • Im so radicalized, I might vote Neoliberally, woahhhh~ i make compromises with existing powers, oooooo~ I understand that people with different views than me can be reasonable people, ooooh~ spooky ghost hands

Hexbear is naïve, clinging to foundational theory without understanding the basic tenant of people. If you adopt a lick of psychology or sociology, you quickly understand how no one theory ever solves anything, and antagonizing people into your movement is not a way to turn hearts.

  • Me writing my silly little forms apps in silly little VS Pretty drop-down fields :)

  • It's a folder that you put files into, but acts as a file itself. Not at all like zip.

  • Never attribute malice to what can be explained by stupidity.

  • I see a future where China out and out steals the unity backend to publish the CCP spyware flavor of unity.

  • Honestly, an on-the-nose animated star trek show would be incredible. It seems more like they wanted to make Rick and Morty and were stuck "toning it down" to fit the setting, which defeats the purpose.

  • It's not the political views, it's the vibe. They dominate conversations, brigade posts constantly, and generally seem to act in bad faith in just about every interaction I've ever seen them partake in. Even looking into their posts, about 40% of it is talking about how to make the most noise in the most 4chan-esque, obnoxious way. At what point would you consider that behavior not in line with your threshold for "fuck-arounding?" I'm all for having a reasonable, 2-sided discussion with just about any reasonable differing opinion, even if neither of us changes our views, but that's not what I'm seeing. I'm seeing megaphones in the form of PNGs that drown out any discussion and generally make everyone else's experience on Lemmy worse.

  • I wonder, if I put image posts without context as a comment, will I, too, look as desperate for attention and legitimacy as yourself?

  • I wonder if the ecotourism being seasonal knocks off prospective points. You can only comfortably travel the cannuck wilds for ~5 months out of the year, if that.

  • The multiplayer version on the Black Hawk Down engine was so sick. Better than Battlefield, and sold at Walmart for like $10

  • I work in IT. My favorite thing to call tricky problems is "interesting." It always gives the reasonably frustrated client a reason to chuckle. "Very cool," or "Is -that- so" or "ah, good, a different error! Progress..." Are other ones to sprinkle in where they fit. Being upbeat while sharing their frustration to an empathetic degree buys you a lot more time to troubleshoot than if you sat on mute for 30min googling things and clicking on their remote window once every 5min to get the same error. And conveying that a problem is very complex is also important, when to them, going from not printing to printing seems like it should be an easy fix because "it worked this morning."

  • I was born and raised Catholic, and while I am not currently so after broadenning my horizons, I've found that true Christianity (stripped from tradition) is simply Buddhism for a different Buddha. If your goal as a Christian is to genuinely and earnestly model your life after Christ, then I support you whole-heartedly. If your goal as a Christian is to "drop that woke hippie jew nonsense," then you're not only not a Christian, you're explicitly the god of your own religion, modeling your life on your own twisted worldview.

  • I consider myself a sewer socialist. I have only ever used the term "comrade" in a derisive sense. I do not stand for kings, billionaires, dictators, or any form of political tyrant. The populist voice has proven to be largely reasonable, even if not the loudest, and I haven't lost faith in democracy, despite the current US democracy being under threat from within. To answer the question, do not equate MLism to modern democratic socialism. They may share similar roots, but one is far more attainable and better serves an industrial society while the other is based on a nearly 200-year theory of social autocracy that has been put into practice dozens of times to abhorrent results. It is my right to own and make use of the fruits of my own labor. The government shall not own my mind or my hands, and its duty is to protect those rights for me and every American.

  • I've always wondered how good proton is when the hardware is less standardized than a console/pc hybrid. Can you really just slap in any modern x86 CPU and Nvidia Card and just go? How's driver handling? It's been years since I've used a linux desktop environment, so I'd be coming to it with navigational/file-handling skills in terminal alone.
