I hope things will change, but we still have abysmal turnout. TX started allowing early voting over 40 years ago and we still struggle to get people to the polls. Early voting is a span of 2 weeks, where in the 1st week, polls are required to be open for at least 9 hours and can be open from 6 AM to 10 PM on the weekday and shortened hours on the weekend, and in the 2nd week, polls are required to be open at least 12 hours a day and typically have the same hours as election day. Yet we still have virtually no lines through all early voting and a massive line on election day.

It doesn't help that the news only bangs the final day of voting into peoples' heads.

I teach in TX, so this is more than just a headline to me. I'm so tired of having students that are scared to come to school because they might be bullied by teachers and administrators.

The law doesn't allow for discrimination for typical hairstyles, it doesn't give any leeway to discriminate if the superintendent thinks it should be shorter.

I wouldn't call Republicans winning by 10% of the vote to be overwhelming. I think that kind of narrative only serves to help Republicans by reinforcing the idea that it's hopeless for democrats to win. Also doesn't help that a lot of media only talk about elections and not the 2 week early voting period that we have. It's so bizarre that early voting isn't as well-known, given that TX was one of, if not the first, state to enact an early voting period over 40 years ago. NY only just started early voting a couple years ago!

It's been rough and it's not over yet. Lots of broken pipes and sprinkler heads. Thankfully there wasn't much ice on the roads or it would've been very dangerous.

I am worried about the future, as long as I've been alive I've only been in negative wind chills 2 times in Texas and the last one was 2021. Last weekend, i saw wind chill around -5 or -8 and this was after a particularly hot summer with plenty of Temps around 110. Usually we are in the 40s with dips down to the 20s when it gets cold.

And of course, the government is doing more to male the problems worse tha better

Another thing I didn't see mentioned is the positioning of the strings and the opening of the piano lid. In a grand piano with the lid open, the strings are slightly above the base of the piano and the sound bouces up to the lid and out to the audience. In an upright piano with the lid open, the sound bounces between the walls of the piano before bouncing off the lid toward the audience. This will lead to a difference in tone and make the upright sound a little more stuffy than a grand piano.

Abbott does have a history of trotting out the national guard to keep the US military in place. If you don't remember, look up the Jade Helm Scare. A Russian propaganda farm pushed the idea on social media that Obama was going to take TX citizens prisoner in abandoned Walmarts that were converted to holding centers and do something with them. Abbott was so convinced this could happen, that he ordered the national guard to watch the military training g exercise nicknamed Jade Helm.

They get off on making others' lives worse, even when it brings theirs down. Remember Cruz was part of the Tea Party, the super crazies that threw the republican party even further right and helped pave the way for Maga.

One that always confuses me is MSM. For over 40 years it has been used to mean "Men who have sex with men", but recently conservatives started using it to mean "mainstream media" and its sometimes hard to tell which of their hates they are talking about. MSM is still widely used in the medical community when discussing/classifying patients and in the ongoing AIDS epidemic.

I think only about half the population think this way. Your voice is in your head speaking thoughts kinda like they show in movies. The other half thinks in pictures, shapes, colors, and sounds.

The ACA isn't the end goal for sure, but it's better than where we were before. Hopefully as people get used to it, we will be more likely to pass a universal healthcare system.

There were also Cash for Clubker programs (although that could've just been state level) that gave people money to buy a newer car with better gas milage to help the environment and keep people from using as much gas.

Stimulus checks at the end of Bush presidency and during covid. As far as I know, those were the first, creating a precedent that the government could sometimes provide financial relief directly to citizens.
