  • A fun idea. For me to get for someone else! Muahaha!

  • I don't know what those are, but I did damage some pants recently which I was going to fix. But fixing things annoys the hell out of my spouse because I can usually endlessly keep things going on forever when... we could just go shopping... which would make them excited. I could use a couple t-shirts as well.

I hate shopping... and it drives me nuts that i would need to do it on my birthday... But my birthday is an opportunity to bring joy to my family. People love giving gifts!

I know this sounds all weird and backwards. I just don't really want things, but there are things that I could use which seem mundane to me but can be fun for others to pick.

    Thank you!

Still no idea what makes pants calico. Lol.

  • Not a bad idea. I just have to want a thing first. I really need to wrack my brain. Ugh. I know there's something I can pull out of there. Something that I wouldn't be a huge control freak over, something that they can fully research and figure out without me minding the details. The poor spongy mash is crawling on fumes because of how busy work is and what life seems to have done to my poor gray matter.

  • If only for my birthday I could get more resources, like time for hobbies or a huge raise so I have more money than I know what to do with. 😁

  • This is literally what I do for other people. Not sure why I've never thought of this for myself. I mean, I have to want things now and again, right? I usually don't get those things because I ultimately don't really care and there are more important things I need to spend money on. Budget only seems to get more tight over time.

Anyway, it will be tough to remember to do this, but I just have to remember I'm doing it for them and not me. I will be more likely to actually notate things then. This can work moving forward. Thanks!

  • Now this is a great idea and why i asked this question in the first place! Not sure why I wasn't thinking of it.

They once made me an incredible crocheted dice bag. It's a crocheted bottle and cork with a baby red dragon wrapped around it protecting it. It took time and effort, looks super cool, was cheap to make, and I love it! This is the kind of thing that would make them feel great in giving and I love it too!

    Win-win!

  • Don't worry, when I integrate into my software next week, i will certainly call it a deadzone. 😁

  • Today, I combined "deadzone" and revised it later to "dead zone" when I saw it written that way in other sources. No idea what's correct because I don't think it's commonly used in many contexts.

All that to say--language is a human construct. Rules are made. Rules are broken.

I don't know if there's any actual rules on this in English, but I'm interested to find out. And then... I'll do what I want anyway. πŸ™ƒ

  • Indeed. I had only noticed that post a moment after this one. 😁

Since I have the previous version checked out still, I was going to compare it against this latest main branch, take a look at the commit log, and see what changed. I'm super curious if I can pinpoint the thing that actually resolved the issue. It's hard to let go of something that was broken for long only for it to magically fix. πŸ™ƒ

  • Well... its eye fell out. And that didn't seem normal.

  • Weird. I guess I'll just take the win.

  • Good grief. Was this the cause after all? I'm happy to report that the issue is no longer presenting itself. The Next page on the WebUI as well as Boost's "infinite scroll" is loading buttery smooth!

  • I think people like this need to be immediately referred to behavior health specialists. They are clearly in need of some serious healing. Regardless of how you feel, you don't need to be a horrible human AND ruin things for others.

Why can't they just be horrible humans... quietly?

  • r/outside

Why? Because I've now fooled you and don't have to be confined to a game cartridge. Muahahahaha.

(Side note: It's been a long time since I've been on reddit. I miss that community.)

  • I have filters for Trump and Elon and others myself. It seems to be only for the post title because I can still see posts like this. Which I'm okay with by the way. I just don't need all the additional articles specifically featuring them.

  • I seem to have a visceral reaction to advertisements. It's very physical.

  • The short answer is that the Google Play version won't actually block anything because it breaks their terms of service. So that version just tells you how many trackers and what the trackers are. I still use some of those apps and even respect them (e.g. AP News, AccuWeather), but it completely boggles my mind how they've loaded so many trackers into their applications... 🫀

Longer answer: To actually block trackers and ads, you need to use a third party source to download the app so that it's fully functional. By providing the app that way, they don't have to abide by Google Plays rules.

The link above is for the F-Droid "app store" version, which is one of the more well-known "stores." I highly recommend F-Droid. They host free and open source (FOSS) applications. For most everything you use, there is a FOSS alternative which will be ad and tracker free.

Want a simple ad-free calculator, go there. Want to watch YouTube ad free, go there. Want to download an ad free Lemmy client, go there. Etc etc.

Hurrah for high quality FOSS software!
