  • That doesn't change the distribution of demographics by itself. Even assuming the birth rate skyrocketed after the nixing of the one child policy, it takes ~20 years before those people are working age.

  • I was confused at first trying to read your comment and just wanted to let you know that in this context it's spelled 'morale'. Like "The team had high morale."

The way you spelled it is like "That man has a good moral compass."

I don't mean to be rude, just wanted to let you know.

  • Are you suggesting that architectural styles are not based on interactions with different peoples and that the type of architecture, for example, from 200-500CE is not going to vary greatly in different regions such as East Asia and Europe? And that those peoples with individual cultures and ideas about architecture won't ever interact with their neighbors, creating cross-cultural styles? That these cultures will never interact and reach a quorum on specific styles of buildings, especially when brought together through larger institutions such as religion?

  • She literally clarified that she was going to provide weapons for defense from Iran and its puppets, that she will fight for a 2 state solution, and called for a cease fire. Like a sentence later.

Jfc. Race to the bottom, though I don't blame you when this guy is purposely taking things out of context.

  • From a content creator's standpoint, sure. The issue is that when the end user doesn't have a shiny new thing they're interested in in front of them every 30 or so seconds they just log off and stop using the service. Why use mastodon if bluesky/threads/whatever shows them, generally, more of what they want to see and less of what they don't?

Most people are using social media as a way to veg out and unwind these days. They don't really care if somebody is able to game the system, just that they see more that lets them veg out (or alternatively makes them angry, driving increased engagement).

I agree that this is generally bad, but trying to sidestep it completely like Mastodon is is just going to result in a network that never hits the critical mass necessary to start exponential growth.

  • But the roots of words aren't what words mean in modern English. Otherwise, spirit would mean 'breath'. Logic doesn't mean "words" even though it came from logos. Besides all that, we're on "science" memes so it doesn't really matter what the term means outside of that world.

  • HAMAS is still a terrorist group that wants the destruction of Israel and its citizens, often invoking religious imagery and themes concerning such. Let's not pretend there's good guys in this situation, whether or not you believe in the idea of HAMAS as freedom fighters.

For example, the founding charter contains lines like this: The hour of judgment shall not come until the Muslims fight the Jews and kill them, so that the Jews hide behind trees and stones, and each tree and stone will say: 'Oh Muslim, oh servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him,' except for the Gharqad tree, for it is the tree of the Jews.

There's no room for religious extremism in a leftist worldview regardless of who the extremist is.

  • I was able to get to this number: 1 048 576 by using base 4 and making each finger a different "10" s place using each finger segment and the tip of the palm below it but you have to keep track of how many of each order of magnitude you have by yourself. Alternatively, just use a piece of paper.

  • You're very good at saying you're right and very bad at providing evidence. The best thing about lemmy's size is I can recognize which usernames to disregard immediately after enough encounters.

  • Not what I said. I used the exact language the above commenter used because it was specific and accurate. Also, inadvertent copyright violation is still copyright violation under US law. I'm not the biggest fan of every application of that law, but the ability to keep large corporations from ripping off small artists and creators is one that I think is good and useful under the global economic system we live under currently.

  • Except that, again, as is literally written in the comment you're directly replying to, it has been shown that AI can reproduce copyrightable works word for word, showing that it objectively and necessarily is storing particular creative works in a particularly identifiable manner, whether or not that manner is yet known to humans.

  • It's the same way the student protests for palestine died out. The message was inpalatable to the general public because of the rhetoric that was used, whether or not it's "correct" in the academic sense.

  • You might've already seen this, but try using the method of dimensional analysis where you work backwards on a single line and you'll never get one of those problems wrong again.

The key is just working backwards by units using the equations you have available. I know somebody that only got one of the questions on his MCAT correct bc he used this method lol.
