  • I mean, people can work at a large company like Apple just for the salary. It's pretty naive to assume any or all of those laid off worked at Apple long-term and were loyal to their employer because of the marketing prestige.

  • It's not as convenient but it's more socially healthy in my opinion to rely on word of mouth. Since I've started pirating all of my content and streaming through jellyfin, I've found that I'm talking amongst all of my friends more about their interests in docs, shows, movies, etc. I didn't realize how much social commentary had been replaced with algorithms until then.

  • If you were going to say something about this, the time would have been when Operation Prosperity Guardian was announced. The Houthis are directly firing on US warships, so the response could be considered defensive action and not fall under article 1 of the Constitution. It's not that these representatives can't criticize US involvement, but they were okay with the ships being there in the first place. Can't have your cake and eat it too. If you were a sea woman/seaman being fired upon by cruise missiles, I'd imagine you'd like the ability to fire back and eliminate the threat. All it takes is one cruise missile or UAV to not get detected or destroyed to kill dozens if not hundreds of sailors.

  • They won't negotiate. Not in good faith at least. They're part of the Axis of Resistance funded by Iran and their ideology is directly opposed to Western culture. The negotiation would be, "Let us rape and abuse women and keep them from getting an education. Also homosexuality is forbidden and you will be executed by the state if you're caught. In return we'll not shoot missiles at innocent civilians for awhile. Then when we perceive western influence spreading into our culture we'll resume lobbing rockets at civilians."

  • Sick, so now I get to worry about the fucking emergency exits being ripped off the plane I'm flying on because the network connected torque wrench was hacked and displayed the proper torque setting while under torquing the bolts.

Can we not connect every fucking thing to the Internet?

  • Perhaps the most surprising finding is that the judges appointed by President Joe Biden have been slightly more lenient than those appointed by former President Donald Trump. Biden appointees issued lighter sentences than prosecutors sought for January 6 defendants in 24 of the 26 cases they handled, or 92 percent, effectively tying with George W. Bush appointees as the most lenient. Judges appointed by Trump, meanwhile, have issued more lenient sentences in 90 percent of their cases.

Trump and his allies have repeatedly claimed that the federal judicial system has been unnecessarily punitive in its treatment of January 6 defendants, complaining that they are “political prisoners” who have been unfairly persecuted for trying to prevent the congressional certification of Biden’s 2020 election.

  • Someone correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it illegal to own a dildo in Texas?

Edit: Decided to do the research myself.

The Texas obscenity statute is a statute prohibiting the sale of sex toys in Texas. The law was introduced in 1973, and was last updated in 2003. While the law was never formally repealed, in 2008 a U.S. District Judge released a report declaring it to be "facially unconstitutional and unenforceable."

Texas Penal Code 43.23 (f) states: “A person who possesses six or more obscene devices or identical or similar obscene articles is presumed to possess them with intent to promote the same.” Elsewhere, the code defines the devices as “a dildo or artificial vagina, designed or marketed as useful primarily for the stimulation of human genital organs.”

So it's illegal to sell sex toys. Kinda. And definitely illegal to own six or more dildos.

  • It's easy for me to say, being that I'm a man living in Illinois, but if you're a woman living in Texas that can get pregnant what justification do you have for not leaving? The state is maybe not literally trying to kill you, but something like an accidental conception resulting in an ectopic pregnancy is a literal death sentence in Texas.

And if I'm not mistaken they can even chase you down and jail you if you "decide" to leave the state to pursue an abortion in that situation.

  • Consider: Pirate everything. It's just a race to the bottom. The average you can charge for an ad tiered service will just continue shifting up as each streaming service gently increases their ad-free prices. If it was ~$15/mo avg before this, now Netflix sees the avg price go to $15.57/mo. If you're going to increase the price by 57¢ you might as well make it a nice round $1....Then Hulu sees the average go to $16.13 so then they need to increase their prices. So on and so forth until we're back to paying $60/mo like we did for cable TV.

And here's the kicker. They're legally obligated to do this because they could be sued by shareholders for not trying to make more money. And that's without mentioning that they actually prefer people to watch the ads because they generate more revenue from sponsored advertising. Pirating is ethical and cool. Paying subscription fees to trillion dollar corporations is cringe.

  • Everyone that's pissy about someone buying an ICE vehicle right now fails to realize issues like this. I'd love to save money while helping the environment by buying electric, but the barrier to entry is way too high still.

I need an AWD for winter driving, cargo space for my job, 100+ miles of range for frequent trips to visit friends and family, and for it to not be owned by Elon Musk.

That leaves like 9 options in the EV market and none of them qualify for my state's tax credit or the federal tax credit now. So I really have no choice if I'm wanting to keep my payment equal to or lower than the $300/mo I'm paying right now.
