  • I also wouldn't describe Illinois as being corrupt having lived here my whole life. Chances are that almost all of the crimes uncovered by politicians in the state happen elsewhere, but we've set a precedent for actually prosecuting the politicians when they are caught.

  • It's tangable tangible because there's a face associated with the story and doesn't happen nearly as often. The other example you provided would be in the news everyday. Its like if your tires were slashed this morning but you decided to tell your coworkers about how you spilled some coffee on the counter.

  • 100%

I understand that better needs to not be the enemy of perfect, but I don't want people to think that Navalny was going to be some savior of Russia like they seem to. He was just an island of semi-sanity in an ocean of diarrhea.

  • I appreciate your opinion on the matter, but I am still going to choose to trust the professional war analysts at ISW who have this to say about Avdiivka.

The potential Russian capture of Avdiivka would not be operationally significant and would likely only offer the Kremlin immediate informational and political victories. Russian forces have been conducting offensive operations to capture Avdiivka since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and Avdiivka has been a notable Ukrainian strongpoint defensive position since the Russian invasion in 2014.[11] Russian forces began a localized offensive operation to capture Avdiivka in October 2023 and only recently began to make tactical progress through the settlement after months of costly infantry assaults and waves of mass mechanized attacks.[12] Avdiivka is a small settlement with a pre-war population of roughly 31,000 people and offers Russian forces limited avenues for future advance.[13] (Bakhmut had a pre-invasion population of 70,000 people, in comparison.) Ukrainian forces have long fortified many of the surrounding settlements, which Russian forces are also struggling to capture, and subsequent Ukrainian positions west and north of Avdiivka are likely similarly fortified.[14] The nearest relatively large settlements in the area are at least 30 kilometers west of Avdiivka, and Russian forces have not shown that they can conduct the rapid mechanized forward movement that would be required to reach these settlements in the near or even medium-term.[15] Russian forces have expended a considerable amount of manpower and materiel on their effort to capture Avdiivka and will likely need to engage in a prolonged period of consolidation, reconstitution, and rest before attempting a further concerted offensive effort in the area.[16] Russian forces would be highly unlikely to make rapid operationally significant advances from Avdiivka if they captured the settlement, and the potential Russian capture of Avdiivka at most would set conditions for further limited tactical gains.

  • He's absolutely not Vladimir Putin but let's not hail him as this shining beacon of truth just because he's a martyr. He was still a Russia first nationalist that supported the Russians during the Russo-Georgian war and was vocally supportive of the annexation of Crimea. He even made a youtube video where he played a pest control specialist and explains how to rid themselves of immigrants while comparing them to fleas and cockroaches. In the video he is attacked by a figure presumed to be one of the muslim immigrants he is calling to be exterminated and shoots them twice in the chest.

  • Annoying and sad if it happens, but it offers Russia little or no strategic value in the grand scheme of the war. It really only serves as a propaganda piece in an already rigged election. As long as the soldiers occupying the city are able to retreat before they're encircled and destroyed, things will be okay.

  • Spotify can be configured to auto download, but you need to open the app. To my knowledge it doesn't auto delete after listening, but when it reaches the 4th latest release it is deleted. Personally i prefer that they're not auto deleted after listening because i like to share some podcasts moments with my SO.

  • Maybe that would be true if he was personally paying for sex, but he was paying her to have sex with other men. That muddies the waters alot. There's an assumption of control since he's rich and well connected. To me this isn't much different than what Espsein was doing. Flying girls to islands for sexual favors with business partners.

  • Yeah, but data could be anything. It could even be fact. States like Missouri tend to rely on something a little less concrete like feelings or god's plan when it comes to employment forecasts. Or my personal favorite coping mechanism for layoffs: "Everything happens for a reason.™"
