  • I think the people who get up in arms over 3d printed guns forget that most people will never develop the skills or even have the prerequisite skills to make one anyways. It isn't like you just plug in the printer, down load a file, and you have a gun. You need to learn alot of other things to actually make something functional. Things like ECM (electro chemical machining) is often necessary and a whole host of other skills.

  • I will add though that FOSS principles do tend to align more closely with the principles of non-commodification, collaboration, voluntary contribution, community-ownership, and free access to knowledge, which "can be" associated with socialist or Marxist ideals.

  • That's the thing, I think they're all just regular people with more radical views on politics. I feel as if this recent fad of "dead internet theory" which posits the majority of the net is filled with bots, is really an attempts by certain groups to dismiss certain online communities/dismiss the idea that these communities are indicative of some sort of wider trend within society, which is really what I think is an attempts to gain control of what is seen as consensus reality online, dehumanize the other side, and justify the suppression/repression of certain ideas, opinions, and groups.

  • If you're claiming they are bots, I don't think that's the case. Judging from the little threads I've been reading throughout this post, it seems as if Lemmy was created by some diaspora of Marxists from reddit after reddit banned their stuff. If this is true, you're not interacting with bots, you would be interacting with actual Marxists. People.

  • Maybe one day instead of [Insert Search Query] Reddit, it will instead be [Insert Search Query] Lemmy

Edit Addendum: Might be cool if people got their old tech support posts from reddit, ask the question that was asked in a post, and then answer their own post with the answer that they gave that solved the issue.

  • I think a good compromise is to allow for sale for a period of years, and then when it's no longer making as much profits, for a creator to give permission for it to be ok to be pirated, which basically means that they've sorta kinda maybe ceded legal consequences to pirating their work.

  • Wasn't homelessness during the great depression roughly at a percentage rate of 1.5% of the nation (upwards of 2 million people)? Are you sure we have a homeless rate not seen since the great depression? As for all the other stuff...yeah that's pretty bad, especially the income inequality over the decades and decades.

  • Might be a good time to arm up(unless you're mentally ill in a way that will make you hurt yourself or make you hurt others before any actual conflict has begun). Just in case of course.

Edit/Addendum: If you have kids, please get a gun case and please educate them about proper gun safety and how to properly check if there's any ammunition in chamber, etc. In fact, might as well take a gun safety course yourself.

  • Might just be that nerve cells by themselves "experience" something when stimulated, but pain perhaps requires certain structures of neurons or even parts of a brain to be interpreted as "pain". I'm just spitballing though since I'm not a neuroscientist or anything like that.

  • I mean if it has an effect on the heart it should be mentioned...in a study about MDMA's effect on the heart...I don't really know how 2 trials about MDMA's psychiatric effects has much to with cardiovascular health. I mean, if you stretch it you can maybe say something about the cardiovascular effects in relation to anxiety, but that's about it.

Addendum: somehow forgot to add "in relation to anxiety"

  • Lol, remove the book giving event from the official school Pride event. After school, have people outside on public property outside of the school give out the books for free. Problem solved, knowledge disseminated. I'm sure any local anarchist group would do so.
