Systems with remote start and proximity alarms do exist, but aren't the greatest when they're aftermarket (not a manufacturer system), and can cause all sorts of electrical problems if they're not installed correctly.
If the problem is happening in one spot it'd be better to put a camera and motion detector light up.
It seriously looks like they did that this time. "Slapped" isn't even an appropriate term for the statement being made.
