  • I understand your point of view and it's correct but not realistic. This mission is bashed because it's purpose was never science but propaganda. To validate a Phoenix like revival of the Russian empire. That they are strong and relevant on the world scene. The reactions to the failure were in tune with the intended purpose of the mission. Science (like usual) is the background of the political agenda.

  • Well your intention is admirable but childish.

Nobody gives a fuck about Russia's scientific endeavours when they're re starting the biggest military conflict in Europe since WWII and threatening everyone with a nuclear conflict.

Most probably any scientific progress that could be made will not be used for mankind's progress but for the current militaristic propaganda.

  • You're basically arguing that corporations should have some sort of social persona/existance. That means they will have some sort of a degree of responsibility towards people that are involved with the company additional than making profit and the minimum that is required by the law.

Good luck with that point, especially in US ...

  • Everyone else should do something just not the holly user. No, they are not to be bothered by the consequences of their actions.

Well my friend when everbody flocked to Chrome or one of the various clones because they like it they gave power to Google whether they like it or not. And now Google is using this power against the user in it's best interest because they like it (to be read "can").

  • Well your right I wasn't clear in my answer. They are open source but for the point of this discussion with open source software backed by an corporation the open source it's just a mean of spreading "soft power" maybe gather inovation from the market and for sure to offer a way for FOSS creators to use their energies to build in the "correct" direction. The purpose it's building a monopoly on certain aspects of the market.

Chromium is open source and a lot of small projects have sprouted from it but with the same undelying technology. Except for Firefox, Edge and Safary, everyone stems from the same roots controlled by google trough money and market share. So in this case Chrome dominates the market and decides the course of the industry. See mv3.

Android is open source and some projects are build on top of it but the big market share so the direction of the technology is controlled by Google.

Let them decide a stadard for pictures which has undeniable advantages and I bet you that tomorow they will decide how you share and visualise images and videos.

It's not about being open source it's about that project being a tool used by a company to spread their interests (which usually end up being predatory towards the common user).

  • Musk's new idea

    Jump
  • Well we definitely did that when he entered the story. Not that before Twitter was more than a venom riddled shouting platform but all hope was lost when this conman bought it ...

  • Ok so their cardboard is reciclable and they use water baser inks and they chill their supercomputers with water, incredible! And also they use futuristic design, wow, surely it's not merely greenwashing!

I think they are so green already that we have to stop them not becoming carbon negative!

And surely they provide everything for their products to not end up in a landfill, right? They are supplying schematics for product repairs so they don't get trashed, right? And all parts can be freely sourced so repairs can be made, right? The futuristic design allows for easy acces for technicians, right? The batteries in their products are removable so they can be changed easily prolonging products life, right?

No? Ahhhh, to bad. But I get it, baby steps! It's important for a multibilion company not to rush, they might bump their heads or something!
