  • The 90 day pause on tariffs is doing all the heavy lifting right now. We're going back into crisis mode in a few months.

Meanwhile, the stock market isn't the only indicator of economic health. Mass layoffs are still happening, prices aren't falling, inflation is still at risk to blow up again, consumer spending is down, and all the major banks are predicting a recession with better than coin flip odds.

We're absolutely not out of the woods yet.

  • I use Amazon to find the stuff and then Google the seller. They typically have the same product for sale at the same or similar price on an unaffiliated website. It takes extra effort but it's worth it if you are seriously trying to boycott Amazon.

  • Time to buy a gun. The left needs to arm themselves fuckin' yesterday.

Don't think that they won't come for you. The law is powerless to protect you from having your rights trampled on under this administration. All it takes is for King Trump to declare you a gang member and they have carte blanche authority to disappear you off the street.

  • This administration is evil. You should not need to be compelled to return an innocent man that you acknowledge was wrongly sent to your El Salvadorian gulag, you should want to. He committed no crimes and was living here in the United States legally. Any decent person, any sane administrator, would want to correct this mistake.

  • After taking a look at that community, not quite since it's not strictly limited to the science fiction genre. Asksciencefiction is kind of a weird amalgam of subreddits which makes it hard to categorize. Think about the format of the Q&A sub /r/askscience and then tack on /r/fiction. It was more of a roleplaying subreddit than anything. Sometimes there'd be serious discussions, but the best replies were always from people who were roleplaying as people living in the fictional universe.

  • I tried to make /r/asksciencefiction around the time of the API exodus from reddit. It got a bunch of initial traffic and even got the attention of the mods of the actual subreddit but ultimately I guess they decided to stay on reddit rather than encourage people to go to Lemmy. Anyway, the traffic has slowed to basically nothing and I've kind of lost interest in moderating it, not that it really needs it anyway since the community is like 20 users per month.

  • How long until the market simply becomes immune to the back-and-forth tariff nonsense? I feel like at this point Trump is just a fucking moron and people are having to seize the wheel from him to prevent total collapse of the system. He hikes the tariffs up, then pauses them hours after they go into effect. The inherently contradictory goal of wanting to bring American manufacturing back to America while simultaneously using tariffs as a negotiating tool makes no fucking sense no matter how you try to explain it.

Is this all just trying to control the narrative that the economy is crashing as a direct result of his economic plan?

  • Trump Media and the Trumpcoin crypto scam have, sadly, probably put his net worth back up high enough for him to actually be able to truthfully call himself a billionaire again. He just doesn't pay his court judgements because what are they gonna do about it if he doesn't? Take him to court again? His whole strategy is to make plaintiffs go broke trying to collect from him, which is why he has it out for all the law firms working pro bono against him right now.

  • Higher burden of proof on a case that already has improperly collected evidence? Sure thing, go ahead and virtue signal to the right that you're still the party of law and order. The billionaires should still be scared after reading this.

  • Sorry to hear that, bud. If it's any consolation, I think the media is making it seem like these sorts of events are more commonplace than they actually are, and the Trump administration is so incompetent that they are actually lagging far behind the Biden administration who set the record for most deportations in a single term.

That being said, it's not the quantity, but the brazen unlawfulness of each and every one of these extrajudicial deportations that is the concerning part. We're still only 2 months into this administration and it feels like a year has passed already with the absolute blitz of unlawful and corrupt conduct coming from the White House.

I'm not ready to give up the fight just yet, but I feel like true civil war is inevitable at this point unless by some miracle there are adults out there with the gumption to take the wheel back from Trump and Musk and start steering the ship in the right direction again while there's still time.

Stay strong and keep your chin up. As long as your are prepared one step ahead of everyone else, you'll likely be okay. Even if that's just making sure you have a bag packed and ready to go at a moment's notice.
