  • If the US leaves the United Nations, does that mean they lose their security council veto power even if they somehow rejoin later?

Seems like something the other former global superpower, Russia, would be very happy to see happen.

I fail to see how this advances America's interests whatsoever. Republicans are huffing glue again.

  • Oh, so SS is a ponzi scheme now? Well then, I hope you do something about that, Musk. And then I'd like my tens of thousands of dollars that were taken from my paycheck back, please. After all, if I paid into the system and I haven't used any benefits yet since I'm not at retirement age, you should be able to pay me back after you seek recompense from all the "mispayments" going on, right?

This is the billionaire class trying to do a rug pull. Don't believe their accusations of fraud and abuse, they're doing anything they can except raise taxes on the wealthy to pay for it. It's your money. You paid faithfully into the system. If they mismanaged the funds by borrowing against it to fuel military quagmires all around the world, that's a "them" problem. Hold the government accountable and do not let them cancel your retirement entitlements.

  • Take note: All Zelenskyy was asking for was what kind of guarantees the United States could provide in exchange for the mineral deal. Trump and Vance either could not or would not answer the question and made buffoons out of themselves.

Ukraine should not sign. USA under Trump will betray them at the first chance he gets. Getting support from mainland Europe would be more likely to see lasting peace, especially when Russia has been on the back foot for months now.

  • I did not know that! Well, today I learned something cool. Well, even if it wasn't meant as a jab, it still projects a lot of strength on his part - he has once again proven that he's dedicated to ending the war, not staying in power or cultivating wealth, or playing at political theater. Gotta respect that.

  • True. If I ever use the internet without an adblocker, I am instantly reminded of how much heavy lifting it does. Normies will just roll over and take this since they are quite used to watching series of unskippable ads at this point.

  • The soda fountain machine was either religiously cleaned or never cleaned.

I've noticed that ones that are cleaned regularly can still reach that incredible refreshing taste. The cups are just a placebo.

  • Police in America exist to protect the wealthy. You can trace back their origins to the bounty hunters who caught and returned escaped slaves to their masters.

If you are not wealthy, the police are not your friends.

  • "Mutual aid"? Is that what scammers are calling it now? What exactly is "mutual" about this interaction?

I don't think there's anything wrong with creating a community where people who are struggling financially can ask for help or plug their GoFundMe or whatever, but allowing these guys to essentially cold call individuals with DMs/Mentions is unacceptable.

  • I just can't see AI tools like ChatGPT ever being profitable. It's a neat little thing that has flaws but generally works well, but I'm just putzing around in the free version. There's no dollar amount that could be ascribed to the service that it provides that I would be willing to pay, and I think OpenAI has their sights set way too high with the talk of $200/month subscriptions for their top of the line product.

  • Because that's literally what happened when Putin annexed Crimea. The west let him keep the territory he stole as a concession and then he just invaded again a few years later.

Holy shit, do you people have the memory of a goldfish? First it's "Zelenskyy started the war" and now this... Embarrassing that you're this ignorant about what's going on in the world.

  • ...he was, though? We funded the Mujahideen to combat the Soviets in Afghanistan, and then when the USSR collapsed we cut him loose to get all chummy with the Saudi government so we could get that cheap oil.

  • If Russia gets Ukraine, it'll be 2-3 years of peace while Russia rebuilds and regroups it's forces before it's onto invading the next country. Probably Poland, Belarus, or Georgia. And he'll keep doing it again and again - waging war with the west until they win or the public decides that saving a few pennies on their taxes is more important than preventing totalitarianism from subsuming Europe again.
