  • Part of the goal of the app is to filter those down. So for example, you might filter by Metroidvanias, verified only, very positive+ only, sorted from quickest to beat to longest to beat.

I definitely wouldn't want to scroll through my entire library this way.

  • I don't really mind spending a few bucks for a one time purchase on something I'll use. The dev has clearly put in a lot of time to try to make this a really convient place to reference a lot of sources, and I'm fine with them charging a one time fee for it.

  • That game looks interesting. It's not something I would have given a second look without your recommendation, but looking at the details and reviews it sounds like it could be pretty fun. Does it work well as a multiplayer title?

  • I've found I can cap the TDP on several games without any noticeable change in performance. The important part is to remember that you set a cap, if you start getting FPS drops in another part of the game. It sucks to have a game performing poorly, and not remember that you set a TDP limit when you tried the game out months ago.

There are also some games that have bugged cpu or gpu clock speed, where the game will run one at max clock speed unnecessarily causing extra power drain and performance issues (for example the CPU may be using too much power and staving the GPU, even though the CPU doesn't need to be running at max speed). For capping cpu you have to use the decky plugin power tools or another method.

Checking on ProtonDB is a good place to look for recommended performance tweaks, looks like a lot of reviews there mention capping Cassette Beasts at 10 TDP, and a couple more mention capping the GPU speed at 800.

  • I've heard really good things about it. There's a lot of strong competition in that space (people don't feel pokemon is suitably meeting the needs of the genre), but it's one of the games I hear recommended the most.

  • If you go into desktop mode, go to steam settings, and go to controller, there's an option to change non-game controller layouts. I'm not 100% sure you can change game-mode layout there, but it's definitely the first place I would check.

  • I always appreciate when games come with a deck preset

  • The mics work well, but the speech to text can be hit or miss sometimes. You have to talk more clearly than you would when using your phone's speech to text

  • Yes, they're big games. You can get through them much faster if you skip side content, but that's a lot of the charm of the games.

  • Played through that last month, had a great time with it. Made me want to go back and replay Jet Set Radio, but the movement in JSR felt really bad after having recently played BRC.

  • Replaying Sonic Adventure 2 was interesting, the sonic/shadow levels were still pretty great but the tails/eggman levels were way worse than my childhood memories led me to believe.

  • I've played most of that game, I would describe it as a creature collector with better combat and dark souls style world exploration. There's little to no highschool/persona content.

  • If you're playing GBA JRPGs, I'd like to recommend Golden Sun 1&2 as fantastic games.

  • I've been playing through Lost Judgement lately, and really enjoying it. I enjoy the Yakuza/LAD games in general, but I think Judgement/Lost Judgement really benefits from the gameplay additions for detective work. The game runs pretty well on Steam Deck too.

Also been playing through Doom Eternal again, which is always enjoyable. Playing with gyro aiming and flickstick for quick turning is a great way to play the game without a mouse.

  • I tried to figure out if this was real, and the closest I found was this article where setting a solid color background in windows 7 would cause up to a 30sec delay during login. The solution was apparently to make a small image in the color you wanted, and tile that image so that it would cover the whole desktop.

Here's a hackernews discussion on it, includes some other fun stories like how windows 95 progress bars would complete faster if you were wiggling the mouse the whole time.

  • Every different part of computer setup/OS/resolution/extension/etc is a data point that can be used to uniquely identify you and track your web browsing. Generally any desktop computer will have a unique fingerprint, the only hardware setup I've heard of being common enough to avoid fingerprinting is something like using safari on a modern iphone.

  • I asked mistral/brave AI and got this response:

    How Many Rs in Strawberry

The word "strawberry" contains three "r"s. This simple question has highlighted a limitation in large language models (LLMs), such as GPT-4 and Claude, which often incorrectly count the number of "r"s as two. The error stems from the way these models process text through a process called tokenization, where text is broken down into smaller units called tokens. These tokens do not always correspond directly to individual letters, leading to errors in counting specific letters within words.

  • There's also a "r" in the first half of the word, "straw", so it was completely skipping over that r and just focusing on the r's in the word "berry"
