  • 1947: It's not fair that they want to add black people to white baseball leagues, what if they're better than the white players! Why don't all the people in support of black people just host their own sporting events? This is totally unfair.

2024: it's not fair that they want to add trans women to cis women's sports leagues. What if they're better than the cis female players! Why don't all the people in support of trans people just host their own events?

2124: it's not fair that they want to add [insert minority social group with limited population, power, and resources] to [thing majority group cares about keeping control of]. What if they [improve the overall product or system]? Why don't all the people that support [minority group] make a special [thing] just for them?

It's important to consider that this is not the first time society freaked out about who was allowed to pay in which sports league. It turned out fine last time, better, in fact.

  • Have you tried reading the whole article instead of only the headline? That usually helps to glean some context and form an informed opinion instead of just guessing. That's what works for me, at least.

Here's the relevant bit, but I really do recommend reading the whole thing!

According to the transgender participation policy, which goes into effect in August, all athletes may participate in NAIA-sponsored male sports but only athletes whose biological sex assigned at birth is female and have not begun hormone therapy will be allowed to participate in women’s sports.

A student who has begun hormone therapy may participate in activities such as workouts, practices and team activities, but not in intercollegiate competition.

"All but banned" is certainly a subjective phrase, but reading the article I'd have to agree. What do you think?

  • That's a great question, I hope you're asking because you actually want to know!

These books have been banned mostly in school districts across the U.S. Below is a list of several school districts that have banned genderqueer books over the last few years. All of the ones below have banned All Boys Aren't Blue, as well as many of the others mentioned in OP:

    • The Frisco Independent School District in TX
    • Shawnee Heights Unified School District in KS
    • North Hunterdon-Voorhees Regional High School District in NJ
    • Flagler Palm Coast High School in FL
    • Alta High School in The Canyons

If you need more examples, a quick Google search for "which places have banned [book title]" will give you lots of results! Alternatively, here is the URL I was referencing for my short list.

  • You said the interviewer said trans people can't compete in sports.

Lol no I didn't. Please link to the comment where my username said that? I'll wait.

In the meantime, I'll link you to Buffalox's comment, because they are the one that said it. Here you go.

The funniest thing is that I explained this to you in my last comment, and you have again displayed your lack of reading comprehension skills.

Let me slow it down for you dude: you're arguing with the wrong person about the wrong thing. We are having 2 different conversations because you literally cannot read or think critically. I feel sad for people that try to communicate with you in real life.

  • If your point is that the reporter literally said one word instead of another, then no I won't argue about that. That would be a waste of time to comment on, I'll leave that to you since it seems to be the only takeaway you got from the article.

For people that read above an elementary level, my point makes sense, because it's about the actual subject of the article (what the coach said). If my point doesn't make sense to you that's okay, reading comprehension can be difficult, but if you can't understand what I'm saying then you should probably stop trying to argue with me about it.

Also, I'm not the same person that originally replied to you. That person is the one that said the reporter said trans athletes shouldn't compete. I came in later to point out that you were focusing on entirely the wrong thing. It makes a lot of sense that you don't understand the article when you can't even understand who you're replying to.

  • I'm not talking about the specific words the reporter used, that's the pedantry I was talking about. The reporter was asking her if trans women should be allowed to participate, and she said yes, which is a controversial statement. Since you apparently didn't read the article, here's the actual quote from the article where the coach clarified exactly what her point was. Not sure how that's disingenuous.

Zaksheske pressed further: "Do you think transgender women should be able to participate?" to which Staley responded affirmatively, "In college? That's [the] question you want to ask, so I'll give you that. Yes. Yes."

Hopefully that helps clear it up for you?

  • You're being incredibly pedantic. The context of the interview is they are talking to an NCAA Women's Basketball coach. Deductive reasoning could tell you they're likely talking about NCAA sports, and that her answer would be related to the competitions she is a part of. This is controversial because many people do not want trans women to play in the NCAA women's leagues.

I hope that helps clear it up for you.

  • I won't make claims to know why his stance has changed, I'll leave the assumptions to you. All I know is him recognizing the trans day of visibility is an objectively positive outcome, and it wouldn't happen under Trump.

You seem to be confused, as this whole time my point has been that both sides are not the same. I'm glad you agree with me on that.

  • Wait, you mean he has evolved over time on the issue you'd like him to evolve on? Fuck him completely?

I said it in another comment, I agree Biden could do better on this topic. I also agree there are other candidates I'd rather vote for than Biden. But if we're talking about Biden vs Trump, both sides are not the same, and it's dangerous to several different communities to suggest so.

  • My point is that Biden's stance on trans rights is objectively better than Trump's and therefore saying both sides are the same on this issue is just ignorant or bad faith discussion. I agree Biden could do better than he has. I'd still vote for him over trump in November if those are my only options.

  • Creating a national day of visibility = pandering on Facebook. It's an official act and statement by the president of the United States that acknowledges and shines a light on the struggle of what is currently one of our most oppressed and murdered social groups.

These people really just can't let someone say "hey maybe Joe Biden is obviously the better option to vote for." It just really can't be left alone without someone making a comment like the one I'm replying to right now. I see it in every thread

  • Definitely tomatoes and some jalapenos or habanero peppers over here as well, and then I'm thinking some radishes and probably something green too, maybe peas?

I do enjoy a good hike! Big nature guy. Nowhere near the scenery of the bush where I'm at, but we have some great trails and nature areas. Now I'm inspired to get out and do some of that this weekend. Cheers mate!

  • Got a small plot in the backyard! Haven't planted anything yet because it's still dipping below freezing but I'll probably be planting in the next week or two. Winter was definitely short this year, only a couple real snowstorms and everything was melted by a month later. Global warming and all.

Bush walks sound fun, not sure if I do them or not though! I walk outside sometimes 🤙
