  • Because of political machinations of Queen Margrete Norway and Denmark got the same king in 1380 resulting in a union and later sort of annexation of Norway into Denmark.

Now follow a series of wars with Sweden the next 400 years.

Im the peace of Brömsebro in 1645, Herjedalen is ceded to Sweden.

In the peace of Roskilde in 1658 The King had to ceede Bohuslen, Jemtlandand and Trondheim len to Sweden. (Trondheim was later ceded back)

In 1814 after the Napoleonic war Denmark-Norway was on the losing side and the Danish king had to ceede Norway to Sweden, while Faroe, Iceland and Greenland who was part of the nominally seperate Kingdom of Norway was not.

Norway became independent in 1905 and tried to get Greenland back in 1930 with no success. Mind you none of the people living in these areas now are remotely considering themselves Norwegian. In 1905 Norway had rearmed and fortified the border in preparation for war that never came. In the end we elected a Danish prince as King.

The Danish "tyrrany" lost Norway lots of land and I have had people in Balkan countries look horrified and shocked that we dont do anything to reclaim what is rightfully Norwegian.

It says something about the mindset as we now call Sweden "Broderfolket" (Brother people). No one cares about the "lost" land and we sort of took Bohuslen back by buying up tons of summer homes there

  • I meant as in red flag lite, but I see the ambiguity. The viking reenactors are just regular and LGBTQ+ is usually not an issue I'm Norway so guess they have their fair share of all the colors of Heimdall rainbow. The Viking metal I don't know, as metal go in Norway it's not a huge thing, but I am no metal fan tho'

  • There used to be a FB group called something like "gun people who hate gun people" I do clay shooting, and some. 22 pistols and its great fun. And while I respect those who hunt (and hit not just wounds the damn birds with one unlucky shotgun pellet. See so many poor shots who turn up at the range in August, shoot a few rounds of trap, miss 7-10 clay pigeons and off they go to shoot birds) I can't do hunting as I don't really like the kill.

  • Viking depends in where you are. In my country, Norway, viking iconography is a pink flag. Yeah we have dipshit Nazis who use it, but it's fairly main stream. Viking rock is a little sus, but not necessarily as sus as elsewhere.

  • Tbh I think Fårikål is a bit bland. At least if you don't give it a day. Don't know why it is, but the dish is often better the next day. And I think some people use to lean cuts. Fårikål needs fat as it is often slow cooked for several hours. That just makes for chewy blandness if you use lambchops or other "better" cuts. Personally I make it "French" by making a red wine version.

  • Heh, I see my autocorrect gave it a calital S. But since you askes, I believe the american word is rutabaga. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rutabaga?

Also jokingly called the "Nordic orange" because of its high content of vitamin C.

I forgot to mention that we so add a carrot and milk to make it more orange puree

  • Hmmm. I will extend it to anything Norwegian. "Pinnekjøtt" usually a Christmas dish.

Cured (salted and/or smoked) sheep ribs. (Often lamb)

The ribs are then separated to individual ribs.

You water it for 16 hours, changing the water once. Or they will be too salty. Then you steam them until the meat releases from the bones (3ish hours)

Serves with mashed swedes, sausage, and potatoes, using the water as a sort of gravy (it's full of fat)

  • First of all it's a private company that supplies many of the ports. It's not an official stance.

Second. It's a private company that can choose its customers because capitalism.

Third. The minister of defence has publicly stated that Norways obligations will be met.

Fourth. I have no idea how often the US Navy has to bunker in Norwegian ports, but. I suspect it's not that often. The subs dont need fuel and I think they are the most frequent visitors.

Fifth. You can suck Trumps dick and fondling his balls while paying him money to do so and he would still "forget" if remembering is in any way an inconvenient for him.

Sixt. Fuck Trump, Fuck the US, and fuck the US Navy

  • I have an attention span of a 2 year old, so I never really finish games. But that one of the few to hold my attention all the way through. Even if I initially hates the movement and controls at first since I had expected a FFVII style game
