  • The better, correct term is, "resuming regular collection." This is just what is expected no? The abnormal behaviour was the pause on repayments. Which contextually made sense.

If I default on a loan, a bank can totally garnish my wages if I do not or refuse to pay it back. How is this any different? Was there ever an expectation of not paying back a loan they signed up on?

Hell, they could do much worse, a bank could recall the loan in full, and without means, to pay they could take all my assets by court order. This is not being done here. Which is much better. Worse case could be jail time which won't happen here as far as I read here and elsewhere.

  • Point there is clear, that even the mods helped the bots manipulate people to a cause/point. This proves the studiy's point even more. In practice and in the real world.

Imagine the experiment was allowed to run secretly, it would have changed user's minds since the study claims that the bots were 3 to 6 times better at manipulating people than a human in different metrics.

Given that Reddit is a bunch of hive minds, it is obvious that it would have made huge dents. As mods have a tendency to delete or ban anyone who rejects the group think. So mods are also a part of the problem.

  • They do perhaps know, Firefox did have about 27%+ of the market at one point and people outside of the USA are more likely to know about it. Nevertheless, FF is currently about 3.25% of the total browser base. That is still about 160+ - 200+ million users.

  • What kind of bullshit is this?

God, I dislike Google so much. Funny to remember that once their motto used to be, "Do no evil." Ha, good times.

  • Unexpected Keyboard is excellent for Termux. Wished it had autocorrect, though.

  • Personally, I have gotten excellent traction from Heliboard. I would recommend it.

  • Available facts are literally the statements made by the US military or the US government -- for the time being. I mean, what you are going to do? Get on your private plane and fly to the gulf, land on the aircraft carrier and check it out for yourself? Surely, and in time, more facts will come out, either from the US government or from elsewhere. We will be able to have then, objectively, a better picture of what happened.

Point is not to jump to false conclusions, either way. Just not go into conspiracy theories, is my point. To me at least, it seems like just a waste of time.

No, I am not saying that my gut instinct is to trust the US military, I am well aware of the US bullshit propaganda machine, my gut instinct is not to make conspiracies out of nothing just because, 'Trump bad.' We are both coming at it from the general same direction, but my stance is more neutral than yours, until further notice, obviously.

  • I second this, although unfortunately, the average user is not very aware of it.

  • You are making it sound as it the Biden Administration did not outright lie on a ton of things. Remember when Biden and his Admin claimed he was not senile, for years? I, unlike most American actually watch C-SPAN and you could see Biden losing it in meetings as far as 2020. The Left news media lied and his Admin literally invented a new term, "Cheap Fakes," as to cover up how senile he was. That is a huge set of lies that went on for years, and people just gave him a pass due to political bias. And this is just one example. I could name a ton more.

Or, like this other one, that just came out recently: https://mondoweiss.net/2025/05/biden-staffers-admit-what-we-all-knew-white-house-lied-about-ceasefire-efforts/

So did the Obama Admin and the Bush Admin, they all lie. Regardless of political leaning. Problem that is that most people go by the news and not primary sources, like, literally hearing their speeches, or reading Bills or Laws that get passed, but rather selected clips and sound bites and then claim they know what is going on. Most Americans are fulled by personal bias and limited worldview in my experience.

In the end, given that a plane that is badly secured can easily fall out of a fast moving aircraft carrier during high speed turning maneuvers, I will go with that until further notice. No reason to go into conspiracy theories just for the sake of hating on Trump, I have better things to do. And I say that as someone who is no fan of Trump.

Yet, by all means, go with your gut. I will go with available facts and until more come available, as I personally see no reason to make wild theories for the sake of making them.

PS: I am no fan of the US military, either.

  • Quite true. Trudeau literally ran on voting reform and that is partly why he got elected, then once in power, realized that it actually benefited his political ambitions and then lied and bail on it, back in 2017.

Most Canadians and almost all Liberals that I have spoken to have forgotten this because they are too biased and fail to look at the party and their actions, objectively.

Just to prove that the Liberal party can be total hypocrites: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/feb/01/justin-trudeau-abandons-voter-reform-canada

I wished people were more objective rather than merely vote due to political tribalism.

  • I wish. But no. :-(

  • It makes me happy to hear that you will find it useful.

    Cheers!

  • Yeah, I find this drive towards a 1984 dystopia concerning. Given that it comes equally from both, Right-wing and Left-wing governments. The UK is going insane and they lean right, and so is Germany and they lean very Left. Spain leans very left and look at what they are doing. Also, I sit corrected and it is not the president of Spain but the Prime Minister of Spain --which is worse-- as per my Telesur link regarding the WEF, people can still find the clip of his speech if they are interested.

I will update my previous post and correct myself, either way, he is a literal Socialist and he is the one that wants to eliminate online anonymity... For your protection, of course. ;-) LOL

Up here in Canada, the Liberal government passed amendments to 2 Laws during the pandemic, when they pushed for bogus Emergency Powers, just for a couple of days in which they sneaked these changes, that allows them to freeze people's banks accounts on almost a whim, some people got their bank accounts frozen because they donated to a group that the Liberals did not like, despite not doing anything illegal. It was due to just wrong think.

It is insane but still most Canadians are not aware of these changes because the news media barely covered it. I happen to follow politics closely and read Bills and law for fun, so I know about them but I have yet to meet an average Canadian who is aware of this, unless they are into politics or study political science or something akin to it.

I mean, I have lived in 3rd world countries with better legal protections than what Canada is turning into under the Liberal party. I say that as someone who leans Left.

  • Where did I get it? I literally said where, there is a Davos presentation he did. Didn't I say that? I did not say that it was debate, it was something that he was pushing for in his speech. Find the video.

With that said, it is not like this is new. You are just unaware. Example:

    https://www.wired.com/story/europe-break-encryption-leaked-document-csa-law/

"The source of the document declined to comment and requested anonymity because they were not authorized to share it.

“It is shocking to me to see Spain state outright that there should be legislation prohibiting EU-based service providers from implementing end-to-end encryption,” says Riana Pfefferkorn, a research scholar at Stanford University’s Internet Observatory in California who reviewed the document at WIRED’s request. “This document has many of the hallmarks of the eternal debate over encryption.”__**"

Also you are right, he also want so remove anonymity... for your protection, of course.

  • Fair, but given how tribal many people can be, this is bound to be expected. Is just like how some people will not or will refuse to engage with an argument and look at person's history and focus on that, as a type of ad-hominem. As if that makes a valid counterpoint.

Just internet folks doing internet folk things.

  • Someone else stepped down yesterday and offered him his seat and he accepted.

So yeah, he lost but he is not out.
