I tried that. My blocklist was well over 1000 users long, my feed slowed down to almost complete halt and the amount of politics and extremism remained the same.
I consider myself unlikeable as well but all my real life interactions with other people indicate otherwise. At some point the pile of evidence to the contrary stacks so high that I need to consider wether I might be wrong. Not there yet though.
Subscribed and top 12 hours is what I've been going by for about a year now. After I've scrolled through that I switch to "all" from which I've blocked all the communities I'm not interested about.
One major issue with most online discussion about AI is that many people seem to view that term synonymous with LLMs - which it's not. LLMs are AI systems but AI as a category is also so much more than that.
This is the best platform for constant live updates about what the people you don't like are up to. Then there's articles about everything that's wrong in the world and also some memes - mostly political.
Rather strong opinion loosely held than the other way around.
Some people might have never even considered something untill they're asked about it. Then they quickly form an opinion about it in that moment and now that opinion immediately becomes part of their identity and they're willing to defend it tooth and nail.
Then I just don't pick sides. I don't see why one would need to. Palestine - Israel conflict is a good example of this. I can easily criticize and defend both sides. Same applies to my political views as well.
