  • America needed well placed, strategic policies to support domestic manufacturing decades ago. Now numbskulls started seeing that those jobs should be in the states. Republicans capitalized on that to get elected to attempt it in the worst possible and most destructive possible way.

  • Twelve weeks. That's twelve weeks more than Americans get.

Paid is the important additional criteria in your statement. Fmla keeps your insurance running and guarantees 12 weeks off work unpaid for maternity leave(for people working more than the pittance that is 1250 hours a year) --- something many Americans cannot afford.

  • Imo, 4 10s is a great schedule. The talks about 4 day work weeks focus all on salary workers, and leaves how the hourly working stiffs who deserve it just as much. Everyone I know thinks 4 10s are the dream. Since with manufacturing and warehouse work, it needs to get done. And there's barely any downtime to cut out. 4 10s are a great compromise.

  • I'm not introducing any goal posts. These are things assumable with common sense. "If a metric becomes a goal, it ceases to be a metric" applies in such case. For progress, the only thing that matters is the total amount going down---neither per km area nor per capita have any value in measuring meaningful progress. But they could provide a good snapshot of present impact of each country.

Per capita is a better snapshot because it measures impact of a citizen in the country. Per landmass isn't great because it ignores countries with outsized impacts.

  • Some people suck. But no, that's not the case for many of the people I know. I know many people who aren't transactional at all. I have friends who don't care about value and will help whenever is needed. I know other people who are like what you're talking about. But still, the good ones, that will help for whatever, are genuinely good. They're not doing it as a transaction.
