  • I'm not arguing the philosophy. It's a wonderful idea. As someone who regularly drives a stick shift I very much wish that it would work. But like many wonderful ideas it doesn't survive contact with actual humans. In any large city if there is a car length open in front of your vehicle then someone will be zipping into it. I've had people do that while we're traveling at 65mph let alone in slow moving traffic. If you keep sitting there and letting people go in front of you until there is room then you will not move and you will probably get shot by one of the people stuck behind you. It's like if you were at the grocery store durring a busy time and you kept telling people to go in front of you then you wouldn't be able to check out until everyone was gone.

  • And burning money in gas as you sit there all day going nowhere and shutting down your entire lane. That's like saying you should congratulate yourself for throwing yourself in a puddle and letting people walk on you.

  • One group is taught that every time a cop is high it is because a single grain of fentanyl in a perps sweat got to their skin through their gloves and it is definitely not just because that cop did drugs.

The other group has enough training to know that second hand fentanyl exposure is nearly imposible unless you are actively rubbing your face in it.

It is not at all uncommon for cops to have straight up hypochondriac panic attacks because of the horror stories they all get told about fentanyl and then insist that the panic attack is OD symptoms and they need narcan.

  • Notice it's always cops getting "second hand exposure" but never EMS who regularly deal with overdoses. All these cops having exposure incidents are almost always either just having a stress reaction which they weren't trained for, or they are using the drugs they confiscate.

  • I actually am working second but only because my workplace stopped doing a third shift durring covid. Damn do I miss third shift. I actually enjoyed 3rd shift in winter when I could go months without ever actually seeing the sun.

  • Wouldn't it make more sense just to use × instead if that was the case? I guess maybe it makes it easier to differentiate it from x?

This right here is the exact reason, especially because x is frequently used as a variable which may be sitting directly nex to ×.

  • How will we know something extraterrestrial comes our way? They'll have their own mitochondria, because something needs to power their cells, and it won't be the same as ours.

New writing prompt, aliens show up and they are wildly different from us but they and all life on their planet also use the exact same mitochondria as us.

  • Seasoning in regards to cast iron has nothing to do with taste. It's a polymerized layer of oils that acts as a nonstick coating. The process of seasoning cast iron is to lightly coat it in oil and heat that oil to smoke point and repeat that process several times.

  • Welcome to Lemmy. I see most people answered your questions but just so you're aware, the only reason world has as many users as it does is because it was basically the only instance that didn't close it's signups durring the first reddit exodus and that also had enough resources to handle the massive influx of users without completely breaking. Most people didn't pick world for any reason other than it was the only instance they could sign up for at the time. Joining any other instance is better because a more diverse fediverse is a healthier fediverse.
