  • Extra components mean more specific hardware to complete each task. This more specific hardware can process the same data often faster and with less power consumption. The drawback is cost, complexity and these compose are only good for that one task.

CPUs are great because they are multipurpose and can do anything, given infinite time and storage. This flexibility means it isn’t as optimised.

People are not creating custom code to solve their own problems. They are running very common applications, using very common libraries for similar functions. So for the general user specific hardware for encryption, video codecs, networking etc will reduce power consumption and increase processing speed in a practical way.

  • No, the people targeting children in the adverts and entertainment should face criminal prosecution.

They know they’re targeting children, they want to target children and they already use methods to attempt to get over what protections are in place.

Google have expressly told advertiser, that they can target children is they go after unknown users.

The only people watching most of the content are children and the mentally handicapped. Most adults would find it too annoying. The people creating it know this. Prime drinks are an example of this, the groups associated with it regularly discuss topic and use humour that inappropriate for children and often plays with sexist, racist and intolerant themes. They wanted to sell alcoholic drinks with their branding, but realised there was no market for it because most of their viewers are under 12.

  • It’s hard to get a good read on these things. You’ll only see the perspective of the person that thinks they were cheated by the IRS. The IRS won’t make Reddit posts about people carrying out tax evasion.

Likewise you say the IRS dont think it’s a business. They probably carry out much stricter measures than that. Probably much stricter than the people complaining on Reddit. The people complaining also only “think” it’s a business.

  • Long term servo is unlike to be another web engine. It’ll just replace Firefox. Firefox’s old engine won’t get as much development. Then we’ll be left with Safari, Firefox (servo) and googles web manipulation vehicle Chrome safari with more tracking and higher battery/ram consumption.

  • This is the danger of allowing unregulated media, entertainment and advertisement towards children. She didn’t come up with these ideas on her own. She was actively pursued and encouraged to do this by YouTube children entertainers and advertisers. They did it for profit and will do it again, then blame parents and governments for letting them do it.

Never before have businesses had this much direct access to children. They see it as a great market. They are easy to manipulate, uniformed and highly sensitive. These are the reasons we limited who, when and what could be advertised to them in the past. It was much easier with TV.

They don’t have the time or structure to build long term plans and well considered features.

  • Not a mistake anyone would make accidentally. They wouldn’t be allowed to fly near hostile territory without being well informed of the risks and consequences. This was a planned and deliberate action, or Chinas airforce is incompetent and can’t be trusted.

Both are dangerous and shouldn’t be tolerated in your territory.

  • The contract only works if Microsoft complies with it.

Why wouldn’t they, they don’t care and are unlikely to get caught stealing the data the agreed not to steal. How are you going to find out, how are you then going to sue them and how are you going to replace the services. The reality is most businesses won’t find out, they won’t sue if they do and they’ll continue using Microsoft services.

  • You can’t target UX to the average person. It won’t work for most people. You need to target those that struggle with technology the most to make it accessible.

Signals main unique selling point is its security, not its ease of use. If people fall into useing signal in a insecure way, it can be hard to say signal is a secure messaging app. As many people may be using it insecurely.

  • Think it was related to the messages being insecure and signal didn’t want people to be confused.

If your using signal your messages should be secure. SMS messages aren’t secure. It may have been clear to you when Signal send an sms or an encrypted message, but they need to cater to everyone.

  • Most common maybe. I feel most windows users aren’t actively choosing to use windows. It’s just what they are left with.

People usually choose to use Linux or Mac. As Linux is rarely preinstalled or like Mac more expensive (when it comes preinstalled) than the windows devices for sale. I’m not convinced given a fair shake, windows would have the market share it does.

Servers have highly informed people making decisions about their operating systems. When weighing the options about uptime, security, etc they rarely choose windows. Cost isn’t really a factor relative to the price and operation of the server.
