  • I just had a weird idea. What if we flip it. Pay cops more. Better vacations, more support. Sure pay them for the cameras, call it whatever. Tax the rich and pay these working class people that kinda seem to be exploited. Maybe they’d be less angry and less likely to take it out on us.

Isn’t their pay absolute crap? Like, I don’t have a problem setting a minimum salary of $65k for cops and teachers too. I’m pretty sure the averages are well below this. I guess it never occurred to me to think that some cops are facing food and living security issues themselves if they have a family and barely make $35k.

  • The convenience is the issue for me. There should be minimal friction between me and the movie playing. For a while, around 2010-12, Netflix and also the pirate streaming sites had it right. Things worked like butter, it was beautiful. For a few years, the legit streaming sites got good too but then corporatism ruined it. All the distributors yanked their stuff from Netflix, rolled out half baked apps three years too late, filled them with b movies and a few out of date AAA titles, and basically attempted to make the case that streaming was bad and you should pay for cable and go to the theater.

So I sail the seas more than ever.

  • Yeah! Because companies are reallly overburdened, struggling to make meager profits in the face of a gargantuan government that refuses to listen to their tiniest request. Will noone think of the shareholders? Instead it’s all “10 year olds can’t pack meat” or “maximum level of feces” or “mandatory water breaks”.

  • You have to be a little careful: by sharing it here, even as something you are against, you have made the message travel farther than a few shitty printed leaflets. Nazis like games and double-meanings and codes because they know they can’t openly support posts like this, but the goal is always to “spread the message”. You may have inadvertently played into their hands.

  • And I’m still paying less (although the margin is smaller now) than when I had to choose a cable tv package. Even with inflation.

A la carte channels are what we wanted for 50 years and this is pretty close. Don’t get me wrong, I pirate everyday because fuck’em, but it’s better than cable.

  • Yes, but in a much larger way. In Texas alone, changes to the law last year have resulted in 9,000 excess births compared to before. This is a future source of tax revenue and labor. Many states are losing young people to better jobs, opportunity, and quality of life and this helps slow that loss.

Cities, states, and countries get their money from taxes. Sales, income, or property tax paid by people and companies goes directly to pay for things like firefighters, park benches, and health and safety inspections.

Politicians get their money from companies who want to change laws in their favor. Different companies support different candidates depending on their needs.
