  • Then comes the discussion if “1KB” is 1024 bytes or if 1000 bytes is a kilobyte.

It's the metric system and it's standard now. 1 kilobyte is 1000 bytes, just like 1 kilometer is 1000 meters. It is much easier to convert 20.415.823 bytes into megabytes - 23.4 MB.

Only windows insists on mislabeling the base 1024 kibibyte as kilobyte. The metric unit is much easier to use.

  • I'm not calling anybody anything, I'm criticizing a behavior. And someone called the comment transphobic, not the poster.

So he may not have meant it that way, but we must view it that way? Absolutely insane take.

It's about how fascist strategy works. And part of that is an appeal to order for the moderates. This book (excepts) talks a lot about this stuff.

This is a life-or-death fight against fascism. Literally in this case. But the fascists won't stop with trans people.

There is a very clear fascist movement that is rapidly growing in strength in the US. First the rhetoric, the attacks on teachers, the bullying, then physical violence, the maliciousness or incompetence of the school, now a 16 year old kid is dead. Then the police are waiting and then say her sudden death had nothing to do with the attack.

Maybe the police is right? Or maybe they are biased or maybe they are fascist?

Reading all this makes people sad and angry they criticizes the police.
Now someone calls him a dingbat for jumping to conclusions.
His remarks (not the person) are being called out as transphobic.

And THAT enrages you THAT creates this outrage in you of how awful it is to get angry at people who push back against outrage at the police. Not the death, not the police makes you angry, but this incredibly injustice! This is what you chose to make comments about.

It's the presumption that the police system works as intended and should work like this and shouldn't be criticized. Coupled with an insult. It's outrageous. I'm not calling it transphobic, I'm calling it the "negative peace" that moderates prefer (see MLK about white moderates) and works in support of fascism.

  • They are experimenting and tuning. Apparently without any correction there is significant racist bias. Basically the AI reflects the long term racial bias in the training data. According to this BBC article it was an attempt to correct this bias but went a bit overboard.

PS: I find it hilarious. If anything it elevates the AI system to art, since it now provides an emotionally provoking mirror about white identity.

  • The included insult, however mild, must be seen as an attempt to denigrate QUESTIONING the police methods, as if the environment was "obviously" fair and balanced. He might have not meant it that way, but even then it's an example of the moderate being the true enemy of the oppressed. So it's either a tactic, siding with a fascist system or at best inconsiderate.

  • Just appoint 10 additional supreme court judges. Then pass federal law to limit adding more supreme court judges. Pass federal laws to fix all of the shit that has been happening, including voting reform and gerrymandering with a better voting system A second reconstruction era.

It would be easy to fix, all the democrats need is a solid majority which they would get on election reform or abortion alone.

  • DDG recently started to exclude terms from my search query and returns more random garbage and a "search only ..." link. So often I search, find nothing, then realize DDG messed up again. Really not sure why it's doing that.

  • Huh. I hate advertising and think it's brainwashing that harms our minds, increases consumerism and causes massive environmental damage and biases all content and news production.

Affiliate links are just another form of advertising.

So the solution is very easy, outlaw affiliate links. Or advertising in general. Amazon and others should no longer be allowed to offer affiliate systems. Or remove any page with affiliate page or linking to pages with affiliate pages from search results.

You can't create rules and structures that prioritize profit and expect positive results.

  • I think the idea is that only the big platforms have to offer a protocol for interoperability You could always disable that in matrix or chat with someone on another chat protocol unencrypted.

But the real advantage is that someone on those big chat apps can just switch to a different (more secure) app without loosing his contacts. Basically this should be a huge boost for open source and trustworthy messaging apps. At least from what I've read here:
