  • It would at least help if they stop assuming the only reason a foreigner from the free west would come through Germany is to sell weed.

  • They make you empty your pockets and pat you down.

They look like gangsters claiming to be police, don't even show a badge until you ask for it, they want all your stuff, like your wallet, to search through it.

  • At least it takes away one reason for undercover German police to annoy foreigners with their "random" drug tests

  • Tbf I ran it on my old phone with Android 8.1. I'm sure many people have old, still working phones they want to use for stuff

  • Yes, for some reason shrubs and plants are ripped out more and more. Lots of nice areas are now just empty patches of grass. Not sure about the homeless but it is much harder now to find a place to pee in private if you're outside a lot

  • Playgrounds are fenced off and parents constantly stay within 2 steps of their helmet wearing kids here in Czech Republic. When those kids are older than toddler age, they disappear from public life.

It's not like that in my home country where maybe they just sit around playing with their phones, but at least they're outside with friends.

  • I never see kids playing outside. There are parks, fields, forests around where I live.

Over time I learned there are actually kids living in my apartment building but I have no clue what they do all day. It's kind of depressing.

  • It happened before: computers, internet, smartphones, other machines were invented, productivity has only give up. And yet, we're still working 8 hours per day (and earning less than before).

AI will get people fired. More people need work = lower salaries, more profit.

It would be great if we could all just work less, but they won't let that happen.

  • I'd say site blocking is SearXNG's main selling point. (I switched when it got recommended to me on Lemmy :-).) Blocking just a few annoyances (Amazon, Pinterest, etc) make the search results so much better and relevant.

Also, Google is plagued by censorship.

  • It's a reoccurring internet discussion you can google. The rest of the world thinks Americans wear shoes inside, even on their beds, because that's what we see in US movies/series, and Americans always deny they'd ever do such a thing.

  • One thing that's different out that there is no such thing as not being able to pay for health insurance. You are required by law to be insured. This also means the government mostly covers it for you if you can't.

You may have to pay out of pocket for the first few hundred euros when something happens, but insurance covers the rest. There's no way a person's life savings would disappear overnight because of a medical issue. I'd rather die than pay what I sacrificed 30+ years to save up for.

  • The Netherlands had a tax on blank CDs to "compensate" authors, essentially legalizing piracy (until the EU changed the rules).

  • The majority of those visits were to sites that allow users to download the audio from YouTube URLs.

This is not piracy. We've always been allowed to record e.g. radio and TV for personal use.

  • I do the same but I'm using the Tabstash add-on to organize the tabs

  • She puts a sim card in another phone that's used as a hotspot. The title suggests she doesn't use a sim.

  • It sucks to go through "prove you are human" screens that seem to time out half the time. Even worse when they put RSS feeds behind this Cloudflare wall

  • There was a warez site that politely asked to click their ads to support them, which I did. This was around the year 2000, adblocking nor user tracking were really a thing.
