  • If you say enough batshit crazy stuff then sooner or later you're going to get something right by accident.

  • There is absolutely no need to bring left vs right identity politics into the discussion, please stick to the topic of piracy. Same goes for the replies below. Thanks.

  • I guess it's possible. But looking at that VitaminX's other uploads, many of them were scammy uploads of uncracked games etc. How they qualified for VIP uploader status in an open question that should really be addressed by 1337x.

  • I reported it on 1337x earlier today, but they aren't very responsive. Fitgirl has it listed as an upcoming repack, so hopefully not long to wait for a clean copy.

  • Yes definitely, but currently the onus is on the user to not infringe. The French proposal is putting at least some of the onus on the developer of the browser which is a new front, I agree.

  • I've raised this with the other admins to discuss our federation status with that instance. Having had a look around, I'll be advocating for defederation. If the instance admin turns things around then we can always refederate later on. Personally, I don't want to see alt-right posts, it's depressing and counterproductive to engage with them. Let them scream into the wind where nobody can hear them.

Updated: We are now defederated with that instance. I'll be happy to revisit the decision if their admin cleans it up.

  • Consider their recent reviews I don't know why anyone would even want to use it. Maybe check out m0nkrus on the megathread for a copy of Premiere Pro instead?

  • Not viable at all for a beginner, I'd say. If you can't find a torrent website you like, there are many other ways to search for content, e.g. using the built in search functionality in qBittorrent with Jackett; using Sonarr (TV shows) and/or Radarr (Movies) as a content download manager for qBittorrent and/or Usenet, etc. Any of those options will give you better results and a better experience than using specific torrent websites since they can yield aggregate results from many different indexers/trackers in one place.

  • Oh, I didn't really check the community out tbh, was more interested in the subscriptions working or not, but I think you could be right! lol. Thanks for the heads up.

  • You don't have to create a separate account for their instance, unless you want to. You should be able to subscribe from another instance - I just tested it and it works. Visit them at !freemediaheckyeah@lemmy.fmhy.net and hit subscribe.

  • You can always just go into a branch to do your banking. Less convenient, sure, but paying with cash is another way to avoid intrusive surveillance capitalism.

  • But if said website is your bank's website then you will also have to go change banks and refinance your mortgage, or give up on internet banking. And there could be lots of implications like that we haven't thought about yet. Wanna buy something using Paypal? You are shit out of luck if they get on the Google DRM train. It's looking bleak, but hopefully it'll be seen as being monopolistic if Google is the only one who chooses to implement it, and are thus seen to be abusing their market power to block websites from working properly on other browsers. If Safari and Edge also decide to implement it then we are all probably all screwed though.

  • I thought the comments from Reddit user SquirtyBottoms were especially based...

User SquirtyBottoms said, "[l]ike everyone else I miss Grande and I'm stuck with Spectrum or AT&T in my area. I use Spectrum. Those fuckers have turned my connection off completely on one occasion and would not turn it back on until I agreed to stop pirating media."

  • A repack is usually a cracked release from another source that has been heavily compressed to reduce file size. They often come with a custom installer that manages the decompression process and streamlines the installation process, so you don't have to manually install patches/cracks after installation, and can skip optional content. Trusted repackers like FitGirl will also check for malware/viruses in the original crack, so you can be reasonably confident the repack is safe to install. Having said that, always take your own precautions when installing anything from the internet, i.e. virus scan and only use trusted sources.

  • Occasionally, windows updates seem to break the m0nkrus fixes. Not every update, but it does happen. Just uninstall/reinstall or pick a more recent version from m0nkrus, and you should usually be good to go for another year or two.

  • No problem bud, we are all learning as we go. You post is removed on the dbzer0 instance but removals can take a while to federate to other instances.
