  • Thank you. It's important to tell the people you like that you like them.

  • Not necessarily words, but a simple phrase: "I like you."

I think people should say that to each other more.

  • I feel bad for that guy. I don't remember people being this absurdly obsessed with someone since they kept Terri Schiavo plugged in after she was brain-dead, because if a corpse is animated then they're obviously alive.

  • Agreed. It does seem like the censorship, propaganda, and general disingenuousness around the issue has worked against conservatives and the so-called "moderates". (Who are really just conservatives in blue jerseys.)

  • Totally, and the deal's going to happen in two weeks. Definitely two weeks.

  • Seems pretty clear to me that the majority of NYC voters do not give a fuck about Israel or the ginned-up, media-driven antisemitism fears.

They care about the basics: housing, food, and value for their labor.

  • I'm waiting to see him elected and some kind of action on his promises before I get excited. This just feels so much like 2008, when we had a young, handsome, charismatic man running for president also making extravagant promises. (Who then ruled as a conservative and a warmonger.)

Words aren't enough. I need to see some action.

  • Just a typical Sunday in the US... except... what kind of asshole kills FIREFIGHTERS?!

  • it becomes a form of censorship when snall websites and forums shut down because they don’t have the capacity to comply.

In this scenario that's not a consideration.

We're talking about algorithmically-driven content, which wouldn't apply to Lemmy, Mastodon, or many mom-and-pop sized pages and forums. Those have human moderation anyway, which the big sites don't. If you're making editorial decisions by weighting algorithmically-driven content, it's not censorship to hold you accountable for the consequences of your editorial decisions. (Just as we would any major media outlet.)

  • Absolutely. There's a part of me that wants to believe "this isn't who we are", but, with kidnapping victims detainees being murdered in ICE custody and people likely being murdered in our gulag in El Salvador (not that we'll ever learn about it), it's an eminently fair statement.

Not to mention that half of the people on SCOTUS outright lied repeatedly about their principles and values during their Senate confirmation hearings. They don't deserve an iota of respect from good, reasonable people.

  • From where I'm sitting, this motherfucker deserves way more criticism and way more interrupted sleep after spending the last term paving the way for rule by fiat and doing absolutely nothing meaning to stop the speedrunning of 1939-style fascism in the US.

  • I hadn't considered that. Good info, and thank you.

  • This motherfucker needs to pay some taxes.

  • Also kind of annoying how God keeps doing awful things but is never cast as the bad guy.

  • That book is partly why I oppose all war. The film Netflix produced of it a few years ago is pretty amazing too. The cinematography is almost too beautiful given the subject matter.

  • Going to add Dark Money to my reading list. Thanks!

  • Agreed. An abundance of natural talent right there. Can't wait to see how he grows.
