  • No, it's not.

It's the fault of the Democrats, who had an abundance of information about the unpopularity of Biden and his presidency, and then made a series of awful decisions about the presidential campaign, not the least of which being nominating a weak candidate who prioritized Biden's ego over appealing to voters.

You also cannot tell voters who've been getting poorer while you've ruled that you won't change anything, and definitely shouldn't tell them to be joyful about it.

  • It's honestly a little poetic in a way, given how the that's how Walmart's treated its workers for generations. (ie, Walmart subsidizing their profits by paying workers so little they have to seek the social safety net.)

  • I think it’s rude to ask someone why they’re not married

Same, but with boomers it was a much more normalized conversation, so I understand why it still happens from time to time. I was much more graphic in my answer when it was my parents bugging me, in part as an equal and opposite reaction to their rudeness: ::: spoiler spoiler "Mom/Dad, I wasn't born to be married. I was born to spread joy, and I do so with my penis." :::

  • I think a narcissist like Donald honestly never thinks he's lying, but you make a solid point.

  • and anyone with critical thinking capacity knows/has known that

I'd love to see this same perspective voiced with equal indignation when Joe Biden campaigns with black people and pledges support for BLM, but then doubles down on militarizing the police once elected. (Among other outright lies.)

Trump voters and all non-voters should not be immune from accepting their share of it.

Absolutely not. If you want people to vote for you, you have to give them something to vote for. Despite knowing the deep unpopularity of Biden's presidency and campaign, the Democrats crowned a weak candidate (wait no, two weak candidates really) who promised to change nothing about it. If we're being reasonable here, one has to credit Democrats' outright stupidity and obstinance in the face of a base demanding real change.

  • Not a woman, but as a happily single and childfree guy, this article resonated with me and I felt compelled to share it.

When people ask me why I'm not married, my reply is always: "I'm married to my freedom." And I absolutely love that my space, my money, and my time are entirely my own to do with what I will.

  • Important to note here that Donald lied repeatedly and vociferously that tariffs would not lead to price increases. (Getting this in before people come here to blame the voters.)

  • Yup, there were even black defense groups and militias (and are still many today), like the Deacons for Defense.

But you won't learn about them in school, on purpose, and you're taught the illegitimacy of Malcolm X' ideology and the Nation of Islam on purpose. The state wants you to think that peaceful protest is the only acceptable and legitimate means of protest.

  • Correct.

The corporate media platforms have algorithmically-driven content that is unregulated.

The fediverse doesn't, which means you get two distinctly separate experiences.

  • What comes to mind to me are two things:

    1. The absurdity of religion. I was raised Christian but always asked tough questions, to which people responded with the various platitudes religious people love to use. (The most popular being "God works in mysterious ways.") I missed out on a lot of sexual experience and mistreated a lot of people because I was taught to behave in certain ways, and I regret it deeply.
    2. How much I was lied to or information omitted by my educators growing up, particularly on history. I read history books for fun, and have learned over time about many things that were deliberately withheld from my education, like the Tulsa Massacre and the Battle of Blair Mountain, or stories of the Black Panthers' community building work, or the wholesale exploitation and destruction of indigenous people to make handful of people rich via the reservation system and Indian Ring.
  • When he is convicted I'm giving him the Rapist Brock Turner treatment and, on the rare occasions I have to mention him, making his new label part of his name.

  • I think it's unfortunate that gender roles and stereotypes figure so strongly into spousal support rulings.

It should be based on finances and need.

Also, don't get married without a prenup. Ever.

  • I only ever check my corporate social media now because I get DM's for various business-related things.

The Fediverse, for me, has been the best experience. Most people are willing to have good-faith conversations. Those who don't are easily blocked, and if they break the rules, moderators are on hand to make sure they go kaput.

Also, for the low low price of donating $10 a month (along with other subscribers) I get zero ads and no algorithm fuckery messing up my experience.

Can't say that about any of the corporate media services.

  • That is very true. Or a Steve Jobs. Lots of rarified men out there happy to take credit for things other people created.

  • I think the facts demonstrate otherwise. It's more accurate to say he's not learning much, and I think that someone like Donald, who has to be the center of international attention, is going to notice when the other national players start leaving him out of the loop.

That Donald reacted to the bond markets panicking in the face of his tariffs demonstrates that someone inside that Administration has the ability to get him to see reason. It's a bummer that they don't bend his ear more often.

  • Glad to see it.

Even more glad to see it now that we're not the ones fronting the cash and material.

  • In hindsight, it's so wild that five short years ago this motherfucker was thought of as a visionary.

  • It seems Donald is beginning to learn that he can't sustainably approach foreign policy and diplomacy as if he's ordering up a Big Mac.
