Yeah, the closet conservatives centrists probably didn't enjoy being reminded of the reality of the political governance here in North America.

And folks here in the US are making jokes about the FBI demanding polygraphs and loyalty tests, overlooking the fact that this is happening (along with the vulgar overfunding of ICE) in anticipation of a greater and more extended fascist crackdown. It's the deliberate removal of any conscience from our governing system, and we all can look at history and understand why that's happening and what it means for the future.

Just don't come here.

This reminds me of a friend of mine in New York City who had a bedbug infestation that got into a rare book collection. He ended up sealing up and bagging the books up for two years in order to suffocate them all to death.

I once broke and dislocated my shoulder, and having a broken arm jammed back into a dislocated shoulder was bad enough to induce a blackout.

What's happening now isn't happening in a vacuum. Dubya, Obama, Donald I, and Biden all took ever-terrible incremental steps to normalize the fascism we're experiencing today.

I got a little excited reading the headline, until it hit me that California and Democrats at the federal level likely won't do anything to back this judge up. They've been more than happy to get by richer letting the wolves feast so far.

Sort of.

The weird thing about Donald is that we sometimes get good things out of him but for completely wrong reasons, and as someone who is anti-war, the withdrawals from Syria and Afghanistan stick out for me.

Understandable.

I wish more people would have had that vomitous feeling back when Dubya started speedrunning fascism, and then Obama, and then Donald I, and then Biden. This has been a quarter-century project of slowly desensitizing us to the horrors of what our government is doing in order to normalize it.

But nope. The wheels were greased and now we're going off the cliff.

No, he just acted on the agreement made by his predecessor.

Which, TBH, I also think Donald did for nefarious reasons, but it was still a net positive to end that atrocious war.

Just wait until we crack open an American history book for you, friend.

It's going to be illuminating.

The point here isn't that Donald is a good, virtuous leader. It's that US foreign policy and every former president have set the bar so low for peace that Donald can do all this shit and he's still better-qualified for an NPP by virtue of the fact that he actively ended several wars during his first term.

I'm referring to the multiple ceasefires and his decision to ice Netanyahu out of some of those discussions due to his intractability.

And yes, it's still a poor record, but it's better than Joe Biden or Barack Obama, who jumped however high they were commanded to by Benjamin Netanyahu.

The wild thing is, the headline is objectively correct. (But really, no US president ever deserves a NPP.)

Just look at the other NPP presidential recipients:

Barack Obama had a kill list, a gulag at Gitmo, and was dropping bombs on seven different countries during his presidency. Jimmy Carter's hands were blood-soaked, especially in Southeast Asia. Woodrow Wilson got us roped into WWI, where millions died over a literal few meters of terrain. Teddy Roosevelt got us roped into the Spanish-American War and whined that the US didn't involve itself in WWI early enough.

Whether you like him or not, Donald got us out of Syria and Afghanistan, and while definitely doing so for the wrong reasons, he's done more to try and resolve the genocide in Palestine than anyone since Clinton.
