  • I'm reminded of Louise Belcher describing safety tape:

Gene: Are we safe here? Louise: Of course! It's safety tape. They can't just call it that if it's (screaming as the mechanical shark smashes through the safety tape)

It's the same reason I look both ways before crossing the street even if it's a one-way street - just because something isn't allowed doesn't actually stop it from happening.

  • Added to an effort in schools to introduce children to a wide variety of sports or exercise based on them finding enjoyment rather than meeting some specific gov goal.

Gods, this rings a bell. My relationship with sports is terrible because there was basically never any effort made to make it fun. I played what I had to and was at best okay. I've not been involved in sports in over twenty years because it doesn't fit into my world.

    That's not a desireable outcome!

  • Brennan is not going to be happy.

  • I hope my child inherits my lack of reaction to this stuff. I find short form video content immensely boring. I cannot relate at all to people's ability to spend more than a couple of minutes with it.

  • Sounds like me trying to do stuff in Windows these days.

I don't like man pages though - it's very rare for me to find their content useful as they always seem to be written for a skill level way above mine.

...and I've been using Linux since 2005.

  • Work wanted me to go to the US for a thing and thankfully I had family reasons for being able to say no. I'm not setting foot in that country in a long time.

  • In that case you should go for it as you'll know pretty quickly whether it's fun for you.

  • I think that depends more on your income level. Is $30 a lot to you?

It's about £22 to me and whilst I'd say the game is a lot of fun (I played through it in 2019, I think, on my Xbox One X) I personally wouldn't pay that much for it. However I spent a long time poor, so I'm rather price sensitive even though I probably don't need to be quite so hesitant any more.

  • There aren't any NHS dentists near me. My pregnant wife is entitled to free dental care in principle. In reality I have no option but to go private.

Healthcare is the cost of doing business and results in a healthier society both physically and economically. Gods forbid we tax the top end of society.

  • I enjoyed Wasteland 3 a great deal too.

  • I rather enjoyed Gears Tactics a few years ago.

  • Without proper consequences their behaviour will continue.

  • It turns out that maybe having a gentlemen's agreement for how things should work was a bad idea.

  • Mmmmm compiz. Wobbly windows, spinny cube virtual desktops, take me home!

  • I assume it was made to upsell people to better CPUs. Celerons have always been awful.

That said, if Win7 came preinstalled then we're talking about different eras of Celeron, at least, I cannot imagine it would be as mediocre as a low-mid AMD CPU from 2004!

I always think of an ex of mine defending criticism of her craptop. "It was good for its time!" No, no it wasn't. It was built around a Celeron. It was built to be trash. It was ewaste with extra steps.
