  • If all you need is to control RGB, I've been satisfied with OpenRGB. OP is saying he's running Arch, and OpenRGB was quite recently moved from the AUR to the extra repos. The relevant package is openrgb.

  • I don't protest it, it's just funny to see the companies act hypocritical.

  • How that still isn't a built-in feature to Firefox, I will never know.

  • Consent-o-Matic for automating most of the cookie popups.

  • I didn't say I was certain - just pretty sure :P That was based on what was known last year, dunno if news on that have been updated yet. I'm bound to see it on Lemmy when it does. Thank for letting me know though.

  • Opinions on generative AI aside, I'm pretty sure the legal consensus on the copyright surrounding it means whatever was generated is basically in the public domain, unless they've edited it in a way that's transformative.

  • They actually used cracked versions of their games years ago. Rockstar were also caught red-handed using cracked EXEs.

  • I'm not enough of a Linux user to inconvenience myself so I'm just using Steam. The cloud sync is the killer feature for me - if GOG had something like it even if I have to pay extra, I'd so use it.

  • They say this but have some of their games on GOG lol

  • GNOME is notorious for being against themes the way Evolve does it, mainly because themes might override default themes set by the app developers. While it does result in GNOME being more polished and coherent, some feel that it's too limiting, especially with an ecosystem like Linux's. It's essentially the trade-off you get.

Libadwaita is notorious for this - libadwaita does not allow theming by default, and apps stick out like a sore thumb on anything that doesn't run GNOME. Gradience helps match libadwaita apps to a colour scheme, and it's what I use to make Easy Effects blend as well as possible with KDE (FWIW, Easy Effects has no KDE equivalent).

  • Glad this exists, but I am worried with the way GNOME is going that this might not be worth it in the long run.

  • Is it wrong to get Author's Guild lawsuit vibes with the NYT vs. OpenAI stuff? Seems similar.

  • George Takei is on Universeodon (on AP fedi) and Bluesky, as well. He or his management seems to be the type to try out new platforms.

  • AFAIK it uses certificates for that, kinda like a more aggressive form of Windows' User Account Control.

  • +1 for Gentoo - Portage can be fun in a weird way. I'm more of a "just work" type of person though, so I've stuck to Arch, but the time I had with Gentoo was pretty great and the new binary package format might bring me back. I do have a 7950X nowadays so I wonder if that'd fly through Gentoo on bare metal.

  • I'm skeptical on whether this will be a hit with the audience, but at least they're releasing something I guess. I remember when Microsoft announced HoloLens, which then fizzled out.

  • Had COVID in 2022. Lost sense of taste and smell. I can say I didn't lose it permanently since it has come back. Whether in part or fully, I don't know. I smelled anything with a strong and recognisable smell to try retraining my nose. Perfume, Vicks, even newspapers.

I didn't get COVID during the peak in 2020 but my mental health has taken a massive hit. The NHS has taken a massive downturn since the pandemic, and I don't see it getting any better.

  • As long as they don't interfere with, say, Bazzite, all's good.

I heard somewhere Microsoft is making a gaming UI for Windows 11 for devices like the Steam Deck, but dunno if there's any progress there.
