  • Djeezus... Sports should be above politics. Shitty stuff.

  • I'm not a specialist and I'm just guessing: licensing fees and streaming fees to the actors etc? Every view costs them a tiny bit of money. I guess over time it adds up. And from Disney's pov those shows don't bring in new subs or anything, so they only cost them money?

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

  • +1 for that series.

I love John Scalzi's writing. And old man's war is great fun. Finished the entire series in a single big binge over a few weeks.

  • The culture series? It's not outright said they're human, but they're clearly human. And they outscale basically every single thing in the universe. Or at least in the first few books. Might change later.

  • I just started reading the series. Started just with the first one. Really enjoyed it, it reads like an action movie. Reading the second one. Starts a bit slow, but it's starting to suck me in as well. (don't remember the names, the books have such weird names :))

If I end up enjoying it as well, I'll just keep going probably. This post makes me want to read them all :)

  • Nobody stops you you know... What an incredibly dumb comment...

  • Again, I'd blame society for that, not humanity.

I don't know if you've noticed, but the actual power in the world lies in the hand of just a fraction of percent of the people. Those asshole ruin it for everyone else.

Doesn't mean the average human is evil.

  • Live long and prosper!

  • Thank you for being much more eloquent than me.

The average troll wouldn't be an asshole in real life. They'd likely just be an average bloke like us all that lost theirselves in online anonimity.

Time and time again we see that in many disasters the majority of people in the affected community come together and help each other tremendously.

There is ofcourse always rotten apples and exceptions. That doesn't take away from the fact that people are inherintly good to their fellow human.

  • Fair enough :)

I just don't see how believing the worst in your fellow human can encourage you to improve things.

  • I hate that pov so much.

Humanity is fantastic, wonderful, loving and amazing. It's not a shit hole.

I'd argue society is really broken in some places, but not humanity.

As for Social media: it just brings out some dark side in some people. The vast majority of people on social media behave. It's just that the outliers catch the attention.

  • How? If you just install windows software and follow the installer, it just works no? I've never ran into issues using software written for windows. There might be issues with the software itself, but I've never had issues with the installation procedure.

  • Windows just works tbh. If you don't want to do anything out of the ordinary, it does exactly what it says on the box.

  • From a non hardcore Foss pov (I use linux on an old machine to tinker, but I don't enjoy it. It takes too much energy to get random shit working. My old random Bluetooth usb dongle I had laying around was not compatible with linux? Took me a fucking week to figure that out... ): w11 is as good as windows has ever been.

It does exactly what you want and lets your os mainly stay out of your way of doing other stuff.

All the people complaining about ads and shit: I use Vivaldi and turned off notifications in the side panel. I basically never notice I use windows, except that stuff just works. No fucking around with drivers, random old usb devices just work. All apps I download just work. Never need any serious OS troubleshooting for daily use.

Maybe windows spies on certain things I do? That sucks balls. But I also enjoy watching tiktok on the loo and I still use Facebook to connect with relatives all over the world. It sucks, but I've taken my peace with that fact that true privacy online is gone for average Joe. In the end it's just metadata. Who cares that instagram knows I like to look at ladies underwear...

  • Oh yeah, one hundred percent. The only reason I got kids was to make sure they can take care of my retirement.

Just as I'm taking care of my parents. I have totally absolutely 100% not broken off all contact with them because of their shitty behaviour. No sir, absolutely not.

  • I'll believe it when I see it. There's new battery tech every other week. 99,9% never goes anywhere

  • Let's see who will pay for your retirement and medical care eventually... (unless if you live in that US hellscape ofcourse)

  • Please don't leave your house, and if you do, please for the love that might be holy don't do it in areas actually inhabited by people.

  • Corporate speak sucks, but it's 100x better than Linus digging an ever deeper hole for himself at this time. Dude and his wife just need to take a backseat for a while and let pros fix their shit
